  • Mary Colavito welcomed our two new Associated Student representatives Eu Jin Lee and Juan David Rangel. She also welcomed the Committee members back for the Spring semester.
  • Mary Colavito announced that the Academic Senate at their December 11, 2007 meeting passed the following: Distance Education courses—History 16, 20, 34, and 53; New Courses—Auto 40, Auto 45, Counseling 26, Geography 24, and Music 46.

  1. Cosmetology 72: Applied Instructional Techniques—presented by Helen LeDonne. This course is designed to prepare the licensed cosmetologist for a teaching career in the public and private sectors of cosmetology. This course will address effective strategies for instructing students on the salon floor as well as in the classroom. Emphasis is also placed on salon safety and sanitation. It is recommended that the student have a Cosmetology License issued from the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and one year experience working in a salon as a professional cosmetologist.

  1. Cosmetology 73: Cosmetology Instructional Materials—presented by Helen LeDonne. This course is designed to prepare the licensed cosmetologist for a teaching career in the public and private sectors of cosmetology. Students will develop instructional materials including course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, educational aids, and score sheets for practical examinations. It is recommended that the student have a Cosmetology License issued from the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and one year experience working in a salon as a professional cosmetologist.

  1. Cosmetology 74: Techniques for Assessment—presented by Helen LeDonne. This course is designed to prepare the licensed cosmetologist for a teaching career in the public and private sectors of cosmetology. This course focuses on development of student learning outcomes and assessments as measures of effective instruction. There will also be an emphasis on refining instructional techniques to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles. It is recommended that the student have a Cosmetology License issued from the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and one year experience working in a salon as a professional cosmetologist.

  1. Cosmetology 75: Instructional Techniques in Salon—presented by Helen LeDonne. This course is designed to prepare the licensed cosmetologist for a teaching career in the public and private sectors of cosmetology. This course emphasizes practical experience on the salon floor, supervising students under the direction of an instructor. It is recommended that the student have a Cosmetology License issued from the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and one year experience working in a salon as a professional cosmetologist.
Esau Tovar moved to approve Cosmetology 72, 73, 74, and 75. The motion passed unanimously.
Approval of the Prerequisites for Cosmetology 72, 73, 74 and 75: Cosmetology 50B and Instructor Approval.
Jinan Darwiche moved to approve the prerequisites. The motion passed unanimously.

  1. Sociology 04: Sociological Analysis—presented by Christine Schultz.
Eric Oifer moved to approve Sociology 04 as a Distance Education course. The motion passed unanimously.
Note: The Distance Education Review and Approval Checklist will be amended to add another category under Department Vote: “Not Voting.”
Noncredit—Continuing Education /
  1. PAR ED 915: Parents of Infants and Toddlers (Reinstated)—presented by Erica LeBlanc. This class provides information and support for parents in the areas of attachment, language development and age appropriate expectations through fun sensory activities for infant and toddlers. This course will provide caregiver (parent) / child interaction opportunities with songs, parachute play, music and movement encouraging the expansion of a healthy and secure attachment between caregiver (parent) and infant / toddler.
Judith Remmes moved to approve PAR Ed 915. The motion passed unanimously.
Certificate / Cosmetology Teachers Training Certificate—presented by Helen LeDonne.
Esau Tovar moved to approve the Cosmetology Teachers Training Certificate. The motion passed unanimously.
New Business: / Proposed Global Citizenship AA Requirement
There was general discussion. The Subcommittee of the Curriculum Committee on the proposed Global Citizenship AA Requirement will be: Georgia Lorenz, Barbara Baird, Eric Oifer, Walter Meyer and Mary Lynn Stephanou.
The focus of the discussion was how broad or narrow the Committee wants to define the parameters for a course fulfilling the new requirement.
This discussion will continue at the next Curriculum meeting.
