The Santa Fe National Forest is outreaching for three (3) temporary (1039) forestry technicians GS-462-4 level to be located in Jemez Springs, New Mexico at the Jemez Ranger District office. This position serves as a crew member on the West Zone timber sale preparation crew. Tours of Duty: Temporary /1039 Work Schedule: Mon. to Thur. 0700-1730

Duty Station: Jemez Springs, New Mexico

Description of Duties: Incumbents primary duties are in sale preparation with duties in other areas as assigned. The incumbent independently applies silvicultural prescriptions and marking guides to designate timber for harvest, takes and records tree measurements, assesses quality and determines defect. Incumbent uses either GPS handheld units or compass and tape to traverse harvest unit boundaries, road locations and to determine area. Other duties include but are not limited to assisting in fire suppression assignments as qualified and required. Government housing may be available. Travel may be required for training or assignments. Transfer of station is not available.

Qualification Requirements: Those who are interested must meet the qualification requirements for the GS-0462, which is covered under the Technical and Medical Support positions standards. Six months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in the federal service is required. Specialized experience is experience, which is directly related to the position to be filled, and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Santa Fe National Forest Information: The Santa Fe National Forest is one of five national forests in New Mexico. Some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest is found in the 1.6 million acre Santa Fe National Forest. Elevations rise from 5,300 to 13,103 feet at the summit of Truchas Peak, located within the Pecos Wilderness.The Forest’s Headquarters is located in Santa Fe. The Forest has six Ranger Stations - Coyote, Cuba, Jemez, Pecos, Las Vegas, and Española, and two satellite offices in Los Alamos and in Jemez Pueblo—Walatowa Visitor Center.

Jemez Springs is small village nestled in the Jemez Mountians that is 55 miles north of Albuquerque. It has a Post Office, a school for grades K to 12, five churches, a library, two small grocery stores, one bank, one gas stations/convenience stores, several restaurants and a volunteer ambulance and fire department. Limited rental housing is available.
