****Reminder: UC/CSU do not require Letters of Recommendation (UC Berkeley May Request one)****

STUDENTS

Research colleges and all deadlines (including Financial Aid/CSS Profile)

Decide if you will apply Early Decision (ED) or Early Action (EA), if college has option

Read policies for each decision type (ED/EA) at the schools

Request a Counselor to be assigned to you in the College and Career Center

Identify and askteachers and Counselor/Admin for Letters of Recommendation

Most colleges require 2 academic teacher recommendations and a counselor recommendation

Does the recommender plan to send recommendation online or through the mail?

For Common App Schools:

Create Common App Account

Add colleges you plan to apply to

Once you have completed the “Education” section, you must complete FERPA Release Authorization(If you do not waive your rights, we will be unable to submit your letter)

For non-Common App Schools (private/independentcolleges that have their own process to apply)

Carefully review admissions process

Give counselor/admin/teacher all necessary documents to complete

Contact your counselor to find out if you qualify for fee waivers

AND REQUEST LETTERS OF REC FOR SOME COLLEGES THROUGH NAVIANCE***

Upload colleges into “Colleges I’m Applying to” (Tab: Colleges)

Indicate what type of decision (Early Action, Early Decision, Regular)

For Common App Schools: Complete the “Common App Matching” in Naviance to connect with Common App

Update Resume(Tab: About Me)

Upload the most current Personal Insight/College Essay in Journal (Tab: About Me)

Request Teachers for recommendation letters through Naviance (Tab: Colleges)

COUNSELORS

Complete and submit the Counselor Recommendation Packet (available in the College & Career Center)

Follow up with your counselor about your letter. Keep them informed constantly, through Naviance and in person, about which colleges you are applying to and any changes or additions they may need to take into account. Very important to keep in mind the Winter break, we will not be avaialble December 23, 2016 – January 10, 2017, this applies to teachers as well. PLAN AHEAD!

TEACHERS

Complete and submit the Teacher Recommendation Letter Form (available in the College & Career Center)

Keep teachers informed constantly, through Naviance and in person, about which colleges you are applying to and any changes or additions they may need to take into account

PARENTS

Fill out Parent Questionaire and return to counselor/admin

OTHER TASKS TO COMPLETE

Update Naviance regularly

Check your email and portals EVERYDAY

Electronically request SAT/ACTscores be sent directly to colleges you are applying to

Write thank you letters: You are asking for something extra from teachers and Counselors/Admin

Confirm Mid Year Reports send date with your assigned Counselor/Admin

Your Final Transcript will be mailed once you have informed your counselor and completed your SIR(Student Intent to Enroll)
