Agency Summary

San Francisco Women Against Rape (SFWAR) is a community-based, anti-sexual assault, social justice organization. We provide resources, support, advocacy and education to strengthen the work of all individuals and communities in San Francisco that are responding to, healing from, and struggling to end sexual violence. We provide support to sexual assault survivors, their families, and communities, and use education and community organizing as tools of prevention. We believe that ending all forms of oppression is integral to ending sexual assault and challenge oppression within our organization and communities. We are awomen of color-led organization and prioritize working with and for communities facing multiple forms of violence and oppression.

Position Summary

The Development Associate works as a part of a Development Team (with the Director of Development, Executive Director, Development Consultant, and Board of Directors) to develop long and short term plans for the development program; implement designated fundraising activities; and evaluate fundraising activities. They are responsible for maintaining relationships with donors;recording and tracking donor activity and communication in the donor database; sending acknowledgements for all contributions,

planning and implementing an annual benefit party fundraising campaign; assisting in the planning and implementation of all organization wide events, such as Walk Against Rape, Artists Against Rape, She Who Laughs…Lasts, and other events; assisting in the planning and implementation of the annual phone bank and annual mailing and supporting with implementation of the agency-wide communications plan.

Responsibilities

Development:

  • Database:Record and track donor gifts and communication; generate and send donor acknowledgements; maintain and generate all database reports (individual, sustainer, foundation, in-kind, and other donor reports); collect and record donor information from SFWAR’s giving platforms andcontinually update database records to maintain accuracy.
  • Fundraising:Plan, coordinate, and implement SFWAR’s annual benefit party fundraising campaign; with support from the Development Director, manage and implement effective strategies and giving opportunities to increase fundraising (including donor identification and cultivation); maintain current and establish new long-term relationships with private sector entities;create and send monthly email updates to donors; support with limited grant writing tasks.
  • Special Events:In conjunction with the Development Director, participatein planning and implementationof all development events and agency events, including assisting with the coordination and implementation of publicity and outreach plans, soliciting donations and sponsorships, maintaining current relationships with event donors and sponsors and cultivatingnew relationships, recruiting and supervising volunteers, and other related tasks as assigned.
  • In-Kind Donations: With support from the Development Director, create and implement targeted strategies for both existing and new in-kind donors; ensure appropriate stewardship of gifts-in-kind (acknowledgment letters, phone calls, recognition on SFWAR platforms); coordinate donation pick-ups as needed.
  • Community Engagement and Trainings:Provide presentations on the activities of the SFWAR Development Program during Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor Certification Trainings, as well as about SFWAR’s work to other SFWAR partners (current and prospective).
  • Other activities:Participate in and support with coordination of other annual development activities (Phone banks, Mailings, Major Donor Campaign, and others as planned) and implement the agency wide communications plan across various platforms (social media, donor communications etc.)
  • Program Planning: Assist the Development Director in developing annual and long term goals for the development program, including annual fundraising plan.

Direct Services: Provide counseling on 24-hour crisis line; maintain client confidentiality.

Additional Responsibilities: Attend organizational meetings as appropriate; responsible for own typing, filing and administrative work.

Qualifications

  1. Experience in non-profit development, preferably with grassroots fundraising.
  2. Expertise with Windows based software, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, and the donor database system Exceed! (or similar donor database)
  3. Excellent data management and maintenance skills.
  4. Excellent phone and communication skills.
  5. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  6. Experience in working with sexual violence and/or social justice issues.
  7. Knowledge and sensitivity to communities to be served and demonstrated commitment to develop cultural competency.
  8. Experience with multi-cultural anti-oppression work.
  9. The ability to work effectively with / in a teamwork / empowerment model.
  10. The ability to relate well to / work with diverse agency staff and clientele.
  11. California rape crisis counselor certification strongly preferred

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary of $40,000 year
  • Employer-paid health and vision insurance; employer-paid life insurance; employer retirement contribution; 50% employer-paid dental insurance.
  • Annual paid leave for Full Time Employees: two weeks vacation for first year of employment; two weeks of sick leave; one week of mental health leave; 31/2 days of flexible/personal “holidays.”
