Sample Syllabus

Basic Statistics for Business and Economics provides a sound coverage of the basic techniques of statistics whether the text is used on a quarter or semester system. Three sample syllabi are presented below. Instructors are urged to require the use of at least one statistical software system. The authors have used MINITAB for many years. In recent years, Excel, provided by the Microsoft Corporation, has become popular. The MegaStat add-in simplifies the statistical calculations. Solutions to many examples in the text are provided using both MINITAB and Excel. Computer examples are given in most chapters, but Chapter 3 (Describing Data: Numerical Measures), Chapter 12 (Analysis of Variance), and Chapter 14 (Multiple Regression and Correlation) are particularly applicable.

The Internet is a constantly evolving source of information. So the following references may be updated. However, we feel a few sites are worth calling to your attention. The following link, create by a retired Georgetown Professor, has a marvelous collection of references to online texts, lessons, downloadable software, and related resources:

In addition to the BusinessStatisticsCenter website developed by the publisher McGraw-Hill, here are some links that may lead you to some interesting datasets for class examples or assignments:
