Dear Parents of 5th & 6th Graders,

Our preteens will face many new moral challenges as their bodies mature over the next few years.

[Our School] realizes that parents need support for helping children navigate the growing up process within our over-sexed society.

We are offering a new program for parents with their pre-teens called “Puberty with Purity: Growing Up with Health and Virtue”. The audio-visual scripts were developed by the international leader in chastity education, Coleen Kelly Mast.

The father/son presentation is entitled “Strong, Smart and Pure” and the mother/daughter presentation is entitled, “Truth, Beauty and Life.” These two hour programs are designed to facilitate parent-child communication on these sacred topics.

We will host these parent/child sessions on ______and ______. The evenings (afternoon) will begin at _____o’clock [and will include refreshments.] Fathers/Sons will meet on ___ and Mother’s Daughters will meet on _____. Attendance is required for grades ___ through ____, but parents may also wish to bring their ___graders. If the parent of the same sex is not available, the other parent or another mature adult guardian may accompany them for this important discussion.

These new programs include a two-hour evening session with:

●Separate, different presentations for boys & dads than for girls & moms

●Audio-visual program in three segments with discussion time between each part to enable parent and child to discuss these important topics

●A group question and answer session that will maintain a level of innocence the whole-person approach to puberty education

●Age appropriate information for 9-12 year olds on the biology of puberty changes, but does not include conception or fetal development

The content will include:

●The beauty of God’s creation and some theology of the body

●The physical, emotional and spiritual changes that occur during puberty with a

●Healthy response physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and spiritually,

●Discussion of the virtues and morals that preteens need to acquire during adolescence.

This program will not cover the marriage act, conception, pregnancy, or fetal development, which will be in the follow up presentation planned for next year (or in 7th or 8th grade)

“Assisting parents of adolescents and youth in the formation of their children for chaste living is essential to their formation in the Catholic faith and should be mandatory in Catholic schools and in parish religious education and youth ministry programs.”

Parents who have attended give the program great reviews:

One of the dads, a medical doctor, commented afterwards:

“It was an excellent presentation. It has been the beginning of wonderful talks between my son and I that formerly had been awkward. Thank you very much, and keep doing what you are doing to help families.”

One of the moms commented at the end of the session:

“This is my third daughter, so I assumed she knew more than she did. I was reminded of things she needed to learn, and we had some great conversations during the discussion time.”

Comments from students were also very positive:

“This was great. It taught me things I thought I knew but I didn’t really.”

“I already knew about the body information, but I had no clue about the virtues you needed while you were growing. I guess I am better prepared now.”

“This was so much better than the talk we had at school. I see God’s part in this now.”
