JOB TITLE:Windmill Island Gardens Development Manager

PAY GRADE:CM-F

REPORTS TO:Director of Parksand Recreation

JOB SUMMARY:Under the general direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation, oversees the daily operations and activities of Windmill Island Gardens as a cultural and revenue producing attraction of the City of Holland.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Implements the goals of the Windmill Island Gardens Strategic Plan and Business Planswith the intent of eventually eliminating the General Fund subsidy and covering the positions cost with increased attendance, programming/activities and regional support.

2.Learns to manage the daily operations, staff, and activities of the seasonal tourist attraction to assure operational effectiveness.

3.Works with the Parks and Recreation Department to advise on the maintenance of all grounds and facilities of the Island.

4.Promotes Windmill Island Gardens utilizing a variety of media channels, including newspapers, magazines, brochures, radio, television, and visiting tourist attraction associations.

5.Plans, monitors and manages the Enterprise Fund budget for the Island, including identifying sources of expenditures and revenues with the intent of eliminating the General Fund subsidy.

6.Plans and participates in state-of-the-art customer service training and team building functions for all Island employees, including tour guides, entertainment staff, volunteers and office personnel to assure optimal performance and operational effectiveness.

7.Functions as a special events coordinator for events as required and supervises others who do so daily. Assists the Parks and Recreation Department with other event coordination and monitors the General Fund transfers earned thereby.

8.Determines merchandise sold at concession buildings and establishes the manner of financial controls on concession receipts and inventory.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Management, Tourism, or a related field.
  1. Four to six years of experience in tourism management, including supervisory responsibility.
  1. Interpersonal skills necessary to manage the activities of a diverse group of employees and to work productively with all levels of City personnel. Skills necessary to make formal and informal presentations, and act as official spokesperson for Windmill Island.
  1. Possesses supervisory skills necessary to effectively manage the daily operations and administration of assigned function.
  1. Mental ability to periodically handle pressures related to the simultaneous management of multiple projects, and handling the concerns of citizens, employees, volunteers and tourists.
  1. Physical ability to occasionally lift/push/pull/transport equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Work includes outside working conditions with occasional exposure to extreme hot or cold weather conditions.
  1. Evening and/or weekend work frequently required.
