UCML was established in 1993 and is the overarching national organisation representing the interests of modern languages, linguistics and cultural & area studies in higher education throughout the United Kingdom. Primarily a forum for collaboration and discussion nationally and internationally, it brings together Subject Associations, Schools and departments in the field. Its membership currently numbers 86, all institutional, representing a total of ca 4000 individual researchers.

The UCML website is about to be moved to a new host, having been maintained at the University of Southampton for over 20 years. We seek an Assistant to provide administrative support to UCML Officers, primarily the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer; s/he will report in the first instance to the UCML Hon. Secretary, currently Prof Naomi Segal.

This role would suit a postgraduate student, ideally in the field/s of UCML. You must have excellent website skillse.g. able to upload documents, update and amend as necessary; fluent English, with good drafting skills; and the ability to respond quickly and efficiently. The post will begin as soon as possible, or by 1 January 2017. It will be paid in the form of an honorarium of £2000 per year, in two instalments: £1000 after 6 months; the other £1000 after 12 months.
