Salk Middle School Mrs. Fasano
7AC 2017-2018
Welcome parents and students to Math 7AC with Mrs. Fasano. I am looking forward to working with you and your children for the 2017-2018 school year. Below, please find my policies and expectations for the course.
1. Student Behavior
- Always act respectful and appropriate toward your teacher, yourself, and your peers. Disrespectful behavior will result in disciplinary consequences
- Be in your seat with your homework on your desk when the bell rings and begin the "Do Now"
- Follow all school rules
- Texting and any other usage of cell phones and headphones are not allowed in my class for any reason
2. Supplies
- The following materials are needed in class every day to be successful:
-Loose-leaf binder with paper divided into the following 3 sections:
“Do Nows”; Notes/Homework; Tests/Quizzes
-Marble composition notebook, labeled with your name
-Sharpened pencils or mechanical pencils (mechanical pencils are preferred)
-TI 30X IIS Calculator
-Three highlighters (different colors)
3. Homework
- You should expect homework to be assigned every night…this includes Fridays and holidays!
- You will begin each quarter with a 100 homework grade. For each missing homework, 6 points will be deducted from your grade.
- Homework must be complete to receive credit. (This includes SHOWING ALL WORK; points will be deducted if work is missing or questions are skipped)
- Homework will be reviewed at the start of every class and corrections should be made during this review. You are responsible for all homework missed when you are absent.
4. Quarter Grades
- Your Grading Formula:
-90% in-class graded material: Includes tests (worth 100 points each), quizzes (worth 10 – 50 points each), and graded lab work (worth 5 – 25 points each).
-10% non-graded material: Includes homework and behavior/participation.
- *We will be completing assignments in the computer lab which will count as quiz grades. You will also be required to complete computer assignments for homework, which will count towards your homework grade.
- All of your grades will be available for you and your parents to view on PowerSchool throughout the entire year. Please keep up on your progress in our class so there are no surprises at the end of each quarter!
5.Extra Help
- Extra help will be given after school in Room 127. The days of extra help will vary and will be announced in class at the beginning of each week. Please take advantage!
6. Important Exams
- You will be taking a cumulative midterm exam at the end of the second quarter which will be incorporated into your quarter grade
- You will be taking the 7th Grade New York State Mathematics Assessment in April
- You will be taking a cumulative final exam at the end of the fourth quarter which will count as 20% of your final average for the year
7. Resources
- Course Website
-Please visit select SCHOOLS on the left-hand side; select SALK MIDDLE SCHOOL; Scroll down to the mathematics department and select my name.
-The site contains: topic and homework assignments for each day, upcoming quiz and test dates, upcoming assignments that are due, class expectations, study guides, links to curriculum related websites, and the extra help schedule
- Remind
This free service allows educators to send text “blasts” to all subscribers. Simply follow the directions on the sheet your child has received and you will automatically receive any messages I send to remind you and your child about the class. This is a closed system. We will not have access to each others' cell phone numbers. You will not be able to text back. My hope is to use the service to give updates and reminders regarding upcoming tests, quizzes, and assignments that are due. Both you and your child can sign up to receive the messages.
- IXL
We will be using a website called IXL in our classroom this year. IXL is a comprehensive math review site with an unlimited number of practice questions in hundreds of skills.
- Big Ideas Online Textbook
The Big Ideas Math® program utilizes a research-based, balanced instructional approach that includes both discovery learning and direct instruction lessons.
It is very important that you understand my goal for you this year: I wholeheartedly want my students to achieve success to the best of their ability. 100% effort is essential for success!
I encourage you to participate and ask questions and am looking forward to a great year!
