BOARD COMMITTEES

Executive Committee

Bylaws: By-Laws, VIII-1, 2

Chair/Member Facilitate the work of the Board and the Representative Council.

* Make all of the necessary policy and financial decisions on behalf of the conference between the regular

meetings of the board. Decisions shall be subject to review at the next board meeting.

Finance Committee

Bylaws: By Laws XIII

* Assist the board with its fiduciary responsibilities.

* Responsible for the yearly operating budget.

* Responsible for recommending and implementing fiscal policy.

* Responsible for addressing development needs of the conference.

Personnel Committee

Bylaws: By Laws XIII

* Assist the board in matters pertaining to the oversight of the Executive Director and other personnel

issues.

CONFERENCE COMMITTEES

Adult Faith Formation Committee

Bylaws: Board decision affirmed 10/20/2006

*Explore approaches and strategies to foster the centrality of Adult Faith Formation.

* Develop and promote resources for adult formation.

* Communicate best practices in adult faith formation.

* Promote the Bishops’ pastoral "Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us."

Annual Conference Planning Committee

Bylaws: By Laws XIII

* Uses the annual meeting as a vehicle for promoting the ministry.

* Plans the details of the annual meeting.

By-Laws and Policy Review Committee

Bylaws: Board Decision 06/11-14/2009

*Review NCCL bylaws and policies and make recommendations to board.

Catechetical Leader Editorial Committee

Bylaws: Board decision affirmed 05/10/10

* Provide oversight for the magazine and its editorial functions.

* Define the long range vision, strategic plan, and annual priorities for the magazine.

* Establish policies and procedures for the Editorial Board and the magazine.

* Ensure the quality and integrity of the magazine.

Communications Committee

Bylaws: By Laws III-2

* Develop background files on topics and people relevant to NCCL as directed.

* Develop press releases as directed by the board/staff of NCCL especially Annual Meetings and Awards.

* Provide a conduit for other committees to ensure a consistent identity/message is being communicated.

* Maintain established presence in social networking.

Development Committee

Bylaws: Board Decision affirmed04/2008

* Assist the conference in designing a development plan which would include fund raising and grant design.

* Maintain NCCL’s case study.

* Oversee NCCL’s annual appeal process.

*Provide leadership for the Echo the Promise Campaign.

*Is the lead agent on any NCCL additional appeals or fund raising initiatives.

* Assist staff in seeking grants and other funding to further NCCL’s mission.

Marketing (Sub-Committee of Development Committee)

Bylaws: Board decision affirmed 06/2-5/2010

* Develop a marketing plan.

* Implement marketing initiatives and activities to increase awareness of NCCL.

* Prioritize projects and set short and long term marketing goals.

* Assist and support the planning, promoting, and launching of new programs and projects.

* Track the effectiveness of marketing efforts by keep a record of positive and negative feedback.

Evangelization Committee

Bylaws: Board decision affirmed 11/6/2010

* Promote innovation in the ministry of evangelization through various means including the New Wineskins

award.

* Solicit nominations form parishes and diocese for the New Wineskins award each year.

* Analyze the theory and practice of evangelization and the New Evangelization in relation to catechesis.

*Research best practices in evangelization within the catechetical ministry.

* Develop best practices on how to enable catechetical programs to reach out to inactive Catholics.

* Work with committees to develop products that will benefit dioceses in terms of the New Evangelization.

* Work with all standing committees to develop contributions to the New Evangelization.

Intercultural Committee

Board Decision, July, 2012

*Empower catechetical leaders to more effectively minister in a multicultural and multilingual Church

*Invite people of diverse cultural backgrounds to understand the role of NCCL in catechetics and share with them how NCCL can meet their needs.

*Bring resources from other cultures into the annual conference so as to enrich the NCCL membership

*Write articles and offer links to CL Weekly highlighting catechetical diversity and best practices from the various cultures in our Church.

*Invite members of other organizations to offer podcasts or webinars on cultural diversity allowing NCCL members to better serve and address these various cultural needs within their parishes and dioceses.

Leadership Discernment Committee

Bylaws: By Laws XIII-1

Chair/Member: Animator from each of the three constitutive Forums

* Prepare the candidate slates for officers or at-large Board of Directors positions.

* Continually refine and facilitate the leadership discernment process.

Membership Committee

Bylaws: By Laws III-2

* Consider credentials for conference membership.

* Review and recommend procedures for membership procurement, retention.

* Identify membership services.

*Develop strategies and resources to elevate the understanding of the catechetical ministry in the life and

mission of the church.

* Develop strategies for recruitment of new members to the catechetical ministry.

* Develop strategies for the retention of current catechetical ministers.

Practical and Theoretical Foundations Committee

Bylaws: Board decision affirmed 01/21/2009

*Further the Church’s catechetical mission, particularly as articulated in its catechetical directories and

other major documents.

*Cultivate within NCCL’s members a sense of being part of a national catechetical community with a

shared vision and commitment.

*Collaborate with other organizations to further the Church’s catechetical mission.

* Recognize and support the unique leadership role in catechetical ministry exercised by diocesan offices

and those in the academic field.

*Incorporate the practical and theoretical foundations of catechesis in all conference committees.

Product Development Committee

Bylaws: By Laws XIII

* Generate ideas for and recommends projects for consideration in the publishing efforts of theconference.

* Inquire about good projects of members that should be considered for possible publication by NCCL.

* Discern what members in the field need that has not yet been published elsewhere.

Rural Catechesis Committee

*Research and recommend possible services and products to meet the specific needs of our members in rural communities.

*Explore and develop means of intentionally collaborating with organizations such as, but not limited to, the Extension Society, the USCCB Committee on Home Missions, Glenmary, etc. to further the catechetical

Mission.

*Articulate steps to integrate this work with the work of relevant committees within the organization,

particularly with the work of the planning committee for the annual meeting

Standards & Certification Committee

Bylaws: By Laws XIII

*Promote the use of the Standards at the annual conference and in communication with the members of NCCL.

* Monitor the implementation of the National Certification Standards for Lay Ecclesial Ministers within NCCL.

* Fulfill and maintain the responsibilities inherent in NCCL’s relationship with the Alliance for the Certification

of Lay Ecclesial Ministers.

* Encourage the use of the national certification process among NCCL’s members.

* Oversee the operating procedures of the national certification process for those Lay Ecclesial Ministers

who are members of NCCL.

* Evaluate how the certification process has served the needs of NCCL’s members.

* Explore the possibility for a national framework for effective catechist formation.

* Explore other catechist formation needs and resources.

Catechist Formation (Sub-Committee of Standards and Certification Committee)

Technology Committee

Bylaws: By Laws XIII

*Identify and provide recognition for those individuals or groups of individuals who have, through the use of technology, advanced in a creative way the ministries of catechesis, evangelization, religious education, and faith formation.

* Examine NCCL's Web page and give recommendations.

* Set up the TechCenter at the Annual Meeting.

* Investigate our partnering with the Virtual Community.

*Examine and give recommendations about NCCL's use of technology in all that we do: CL, Annual

meeting, Web page, Blog, etc.

AD HOC COMMITTEE

Partnership on Adolescent Catechesis

Bylaws: By Laws XIII-1; created in response to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between NCCL, NFCYM, and NCEA

Chair/Member: Dioceses involved in the Pilot

* Increase awareness of the work of PAC as a partnership of NCCL with NFCYM, NCEA, and various

secretariats in the USCCB.

* Ensure communication with NCCL members, through various vehicles, regarding the project for PAC and

in particular NIAC and its website (

* Invite participation in the Transforming Adolescent Catechesis process.

* Promote the use of the Vision and Outcomes of Adolescent Catechesis in the development of programs

serving adolescents.

* Encourage the use of the indicators in an assessment of adolescent catechesis in one’s parish or diocese.

Strong Catholic Families, Strong Catholic Youth

Bylaws: By Laws XIII-1; created in response to the agreement with NFCYM, NCAFLM, and NCCL

Chair/Member: Diocese who have (and will) initiate the program

* Increase awareness of the Strong Catholic Families, Strong Catholic Youth programs as a partnership of

NCCL with NFCYM and NACFLM in NCCL communications.

* Promote the availability of these trainings and the resources through a variety of avenues.

* Encourage dioceses to become participants in the SCFSCY program.

* Provide opportunities for participants in the SCFSCY programs to connect with one another for support

and ideas, i.e., meet at the annual conference.
