Job description

To assist with the provision of a high quality A&E IDSVA triage service at Southmead Hospital, for men and women who present with symptoms related to domestic abuse and/or sexual violence. You will work under the support and supervision of theSenior IDSVA to provide intensive, one-to-one work with survivors of domestic abuse and/or sexual violence. You will prioritise those cases that are medium to high risk of harm, and work with them for up to two weeks. You will ensure signposting to other services occurs, and maintain strong relationships with key external agencies. You will ensure appropriate referrals are made in and out of Survive’ services, and through the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC). You will maintain the reputation and understanding of Survive through the development of external relationships with stake holders, awareness raising, assisting with the delivery of training and presentations.

Relationships:Survive Board of Trustees, CEO, Managers, Staff and Volunteers, Commissioners and external agencies.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Operational

  1. To support all service users accessing the A&E IDSVA service ensuring effective delivery of service, complete thorough risk assessments and provide additional support and advocacy as required.
  2. To respond to referrals into the A&E IDSVA service and act upon them as required.
  3. Signpost service users to other services within Survive or other relevant external agencies.
  4. To ensure the A&E IDSVA service achieves the annual targets set by the Commissioners within the annual service level agreement.
  5. To ensure there is appropriate liaison between staff within the A&E IDSVA service, regarding matters pertaining to women, men and their children.
  6. To ensure appropriate support agencies are identified and appropriate signposting/referral procedures and partnership working is developed, maintained and followed.
  7. Refer (and if required present) high risk cases to the monthly Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARAC).
  8. Participate in on call arrangements as necessary.
  9. To ensure equality of opportunity is maintained at all times.
  10. To ensure adult and child safeguarding issues that are identified within the A&E IDSVA service are acted upon in accordance with Survive safeguarding policies and procedures, and brought to the attention of the Senior IDSVA or IDVA Service Manager.
  11. Ensure any issues that have been identified either within the A&E IDSVA service or within the hospital setting that impacts on the provision of the service are reported promptly to the Senior IDSVA.

Administrative

  1. To maintain clear and accurate records of the A&E IDSVA service using established record keeping and confidentiality policies. Ensure records are update accurately and key changes reported appropriately.
  2. To work closely with Southmead Hospital to maintain efficient referral procedures, including call out and record keeping ensuring that victims receive a prompt service and are kept safe through clear communication and systems.
  3. To adhere to policy and procedures in relation to health and safety in all aspects of work including self, the workplace, to colleagues, service users and the general public.
  4. To provide written reports (including statistical) as required.

Networking

  1. To liaise with relevant internal teams and external agencies to ensure productive and collaborative working.
  2. To promote awareness about domestic abuse and Survive through assisting with the delivery of bespoke specialist training and presentations to medical and non-medical staff.
  3. To support Survive’s fundraising through active promotion of events and involvement in fundraising events.

Other

  1. To ensure effective and safe personal practice.
  2. Participate in relevant meetings, supervision and internal and external trainings.
  3. To ensure personal knowledge is up to date with key legislative and legal requirements.
  4. Establish and maintain professional working relationships and effective communication with Survive staff, Southmead Hospital and other relevant stakeholders.
  5. To undertake any other duties as directed by the Senior IDSVA or IDVA & Outreach Service Manager that may reasonably fall within the scope of the post.

  • Applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced disclosure barring service check before employment starts.
  • The job involves flexible working hours including weekend working, responding to crises and out of hours meetings.
  • The post holder must have a full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.

Person specification:

Essential skills knowledge and experience

1.Experience of working within A&E or similar NHS department.
2.At least three years experience of work in a relevant field/setting including case management.
3.Excellent understanding of domestic abuse including causes and consequences.
4.A level 4 qualification in a relevant field or a level 4 qualification in a different field with an additional two years relevant experience. Please note other qualifications may be relevant, you will need to clearly demonstrate this on your application form.
5.To have successfully completed and obtained the Safe Lives IDVA training qualification.
6.An excellent understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and experience in implementing this in practice.
7.An excellent understanding of and experience in responding to adult and child safeguarding concerns.
8.An excellent understanding of Safe lives guidelines for women at high risk and the MARAC process.
9.Willingness to support and work with both male and female victims.
10.An ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
11.Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills.
12.Experience of delivering effective training.
13.An excellent understanding of the criminal justice system relating to domestic abuse.
