Approval of Minutes

  • Minutes from the April 26 meeting were approved.

Dean’s Report

  • The Dean introduced new faculty members Neriko Doerr & Amanda Roberti.
  • The Dean welcomed back John Gronbeck-Tedesco from sabbatical.
  • Support is available from the following funds:
  • Platinum – rolling
  • Travel - rolling
  • Year of Europe - deadline September 29
  • Teaching & Learning Pedagogy – deadline September 29
  • Student – Faculty Research - rolling
  • COPLAC Conference will take place October 13-15 of this year. The Dean requested faculty to identify students who have research to present. Students should send the Dean 150 word abstracts and a 2 line bio by September 13.
  • Bookstore Representatives met with Deans to discuss decrease in book sales. Faculties are requested to order books through the campus bookstore.
  • The Unit will start an EOF Mentoring Program this semester.
  • Names Committee sent a letter to Faculty regarding transgender students’ requests to be referred to by names and gender pronouns of their choice. Faculty should review the letter and be prepared to receive confidential notices from the Dean of Students regarding transgender students in their classes.
  • New Degree Evaluation Software will be implemented by Fall 2018.
  • First Year Faculty Advisement will take place within the Unit. Michelle Johnson will deliver a training session during Unit Council on September 13.

Committee Assignments for 2017-18 AY

  • The Dean discussed committee assignments with the Unit.

Committee Reports

  • By Friday September 9 the Personnel Committee will give access to reappointment binder(s). all
  • Unit was advised to contact the Personnel Committee, as soon as possible, in regards to application(s) for promotion.
  • International Education Committee representative Natalia Santamaria Laorden shared updates with the Unit on the plan to hold workshops regarding the meaningful international experience goal in the Strategic Plan.

Announcements

  • SSHGS Film Series will host its first event on October 11.
  • Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night will be shown at the Berrie Center in November.
