SAILORS’ SOCIETY JOB DESCRIPTION – Events Fundraiser (EF)

Title: Events Fundraiser

Reporting to: Events Manager

Budget Responsibility: Responsible for meeting Financial and Key performance targets

Based at: Head Office, Southampton

Hours of Work: Full-time (9 – 5.30pm, with one hour for lunch, 37.5 hours)

The Society also operates a flexi-hour scheme

(core hours 10am -4pm)

Team: Fundraising Events Team

Team Purpose: The fundraising events team raise financial resources from a planned schedule of international events and promotion of in aid of events.

Job Purpose

·  To be responsible for selected Fundraising events including recruitment, logistics and collection of funds

·  To obtain corporate sponsorship to financially support fundraising events

·  To provide necessary support for all fundraising events within the Society

Key Responsibilities

·  Responsible for leading and co-ordinating designated fundraising events, locally, nationally and internationally.

·  Securing teams/table holders to attend Sailors’ Society events through emails, telephone calls, face to face meetings and group presentations.

·  Securing corporate sponsorship for each event

·  Research, identify and make contact with new companies to develop meaningful relationships.

·  Motivate supporters to maximise the funds they raise.

·  Encourage supporters to organise their own events to raise money for our cause.

·  Ensure donors are thanked and receive updates on how their donation has helped.

·  Ensure funds pledged are collected within the designated time frame.

·  Contribute to preparation of budgets and financial reports.

·  Contribute to identifying and developing new opportunities for events.

·  To promote all areas of fundraising including individual donations and program sponsorship.

·  Work with the communications and Advocacy department to ensure all marketing/ PR opportunities are fulfilled for each event.

·  To develop a good understanding of the Shipping industry we fundraise in.

·  Maintaining administration systems to record proper record keeping and allocation of donations

·  Supporting the Events Manager and other team members as required.

·  To gain an understanding of current legislation, policies and the main issues that may affect event fundraising within the charity sector and bring these to the attention of your line manager.

·  Recording financial and personal contact data to the standards and requirements of the Data Protection Act, with a high level of accuracy using the Society’s database Raiser’s Edge (RE).

·  To operate within the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice and the Society’s formal policies and requirements concerning fundraising as issued from time to time.

Essential

-  Absolute confidence to ‘ask’ for donations and close a deal

-  ‘Can-do’ attitude

-  Experience in organising and delivering successful fundraising events

-  Strong track record of working to financial targets

-  Ability to work with a high degree of motivation and initiative

-  Good and clear writing skills

-  Ability to manage a evolving workload of multiple events

-  Excellent IT Skills

-  Enthusiastic personality with the ability to proactively respond to new opportunities

-  Passionate about fundraising and events

-  Ability to attend events out of office hours and travel internationally when required

Desirable

-  Experience of a fundraising database (training given in Raisers Edge)
