Sailing Holidays for Swallows & Amazons fans

Thanks to this summer’s top family film Swallows and Amazons (in cinemas now) a new generation is discovering the joys of sailing and Waterways Holidays is highlighting ‘what came next’ for the children in Arthur Ransome’s books – sailing on the Norfolk Broads.

“Of the 12 books in the series, four are set in and around East Anglia, exploring the Norfolk Broads by boat,” says managing director Nigel Richards.

“Britain’s largest wetland area offers safe sailing ideal for beginners and novices and we have an excellent range of traditional and modern yachts to choose from.

“We can organise everything from independent yacht hire to tuition-by-the-hour and courses leading to RYA qualifications,” says Richards, who has enjoyed sailing on the Broads for over 30 years.

For example, 27ft ‘Dawn Wind’ is a comfortable and spacious Broads sailing yacht, ideal for families of four. Bermudan rigged ‘Dawn Wind’ is maintained to a high standard and is ideal for those looking to hire a modern, easy to handle yacht. On board features include a roomy interior with teak finish, spacious cockpit with spray-hood, galley with a small oven, two burner hob, grill and electric refrigerator and an onboard shower. A three night weekend hire this September is £529.

Optional ‘top up’ sailing tuition is available at £25 per hour for a minimum of 3 hours. This extra tuition is perfect for previous dinghy sailors looking to try sailing a larger yacht for the first time in the safety of the Norfolk Broads.

For complete novices, comprehensive sailing courses, including RYA training, can be arranged by Waterways Holidays in conjunction with the Norfolk Broads School of Sailing.

Waterways Holidays is once again the proud sponsor of the annual Barton Charter Yacht Regatta. The Regatta is open to holiday hirers with previous sailing experience and this year runs between 8 and 15 October 2016.
