Setting up the new GST rates

1.  Using the menu system, click on Set Up and select Tax.

2.  The following screen will be displayed:

3.  Click on the percentages tab and the current GST rates will be displayed as in the image below:

4.  It is important to set the “end date” on the existing GST rate so that after that date it ceases operating for new entries, but reverts for “Credit Notes” and “Returns to Suppliers”. You will then create the new GST with the new percentage as well as the start date. This will appear as in the image below:

5.  The next step is very important as credit notes or returns to suppliers will need to be processed at the same GST rate as the original documents.

Updating Default Tax Types

The next step will be to update the defaults so that any new document that you process uses the new rates.

1.  Using the menu system, click on “Edit...Tax Types Adjustment”

2.  The following screen will be displayed:

3.  Click on the Next button and the following screen will be displayed:

4.  From the available list of options, select the first option General Ledger by clicking on the radio button. Click on the next button. The system lets you select the current GST rate and the new one you will be using. Click on the next button and the process button will be available to execute the changes.

5.  Follow the same process for customer, supplier and inventory as identified in step 3.

6.  In order to adjust the Box Layout to reflect the new formulas go to Set Up Tax on the menu bar. Select the box names tab and existing formulas will be displayed. Adjust according to the new Tax laws.

New company set ups

To cater for new company databases which will be created, the assist file will need to be modified to have the new GST rate.

1.  Locate the assist file in the following path: Drive letter:\Application version\Custom\Country

2.  A list of files for different countries exist, select the “assistnz.eng file as in the image below:

3.  Right click and select edit to open with note pad. Scroll down until you reach the section called 1=GST Standard Rate 12.5, as indicated in the image below. Change the GST rate from 12.5 to the new rate of 15.

Under the section “Tax Box Names” modify the formulas to reflect the new changes.
