Language & Communication:
Speaking, listening, literacy, English and other languages / List how you say ‘Sun’ in at least 5 different languages. / Teach your family the order of the planets in the solar system using your mnemonic. Then test them… Have they remembered correctly? Tell me what happened-who did the best? / Write a letter of application to the UK Space Agency to become an astronaut. What personal qualities or skills would you need to carry out this role? / Imagine… an alien space ship has crash landed in your back garden. Write your own story about what happens next. Remember to use powerful vocabulary to bring your story (and your alien) to life!
Health & Wellbeing:
Physical activity, food, personal/social/
Emotional development / List some of the ways in which you can be ‘out’ in cricket. How many can you find out? / Make up and describe a ‘super sandwich.’ Make it sound tasty but point out the nutritious elements too! / Find out about free range and battery farmed eggs. Write a persuasive letter arguing for people to opt for free range eggs. / Have you ever resolved a conflict? e.g.with you and one of your friends or between two of your friends. Describe what happened and how things got sorted out.
Humanities & Citizenship:
History, Geography, R.E. Cultural, visits / List the Ten Commandments. Explain exactly where in the Bible you could find them. / Research the main rivers in the UK. Where are they? Which are the longest ones? / So far, 24 astronauts have visited the Moon. Find out their names, download pictures and record interesting facts about them. / Keep a Moon diary over the course of a lunar month. Draw the shape of the Moon each night, Try to find the correct term for each lunar phase.
Science & Technology:
Science, D.T., Eco issues / What is your opinion on mobile phones? Are they a good thing? Should they be allowed in school? Do people use them too much? Explain your views as fully as you can. / Search the night sky and try to identify the Moon, stars or even some of the planets in the solar system such as Venus or Mars. Use binoculars or a telescope if possible. (Never look directly at the Sun with your naked eye or through a telescope) / Make your own alien out of papier mache, clay or any other material. Take photographs at each stage to show its development.
Creative Arts:
Art, Design, music, Dance / Write a list of musical instruments in the brass family. / Write a review of a space-themed film that you have watched with your family. How many stars would you award it? / Find out as much as you can about ‘The Planets Suite’ by Holst. Make a powerpoint about your findings.
Maths & Problem Solving:
Maths, Thinking Skills, Logic, Problem Solving / Make up some ‘real life’ maths questions on negative numbers for children. / Research the relative sizes of the planets. Present your findings in graph or chart form.

GUIDELINES: Choose a minimum of 5 activities, at least one from each row. Your aim is to gain more than 9 points over the half term. You can do a maximum of 2 activities from any one row to make up your 9 points. You must have evidence of all the activities you choose – bring it in to talk about with your class. Books will need to be brought into school on a FRIDAY to be checked for progress.
