Positions available: Development Department Internship

Wage: $10.00/hr.

Working hours: 10-15 hrs/week. Hours are flexible to accommodate class schedule.

The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency was established by a joint powers agreement between the City and County of Sacramento to undertake economic development and housing activities on their behalf. The Agency is currently facilitating two neighborhood transformation planning processes under the aegis of the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development’s (HUD) Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under supervision, assist Development Department staff to carry out revitalization activities in the two Choice Neighborhoods target areas, and in neighborhoods throughout the City and County of Sacramento. Depending on abilities, assignments may include gathering data, surveying neighborhoods, tracking project status information, research, gathering and analyzing data, working with neighborhood residents, preparing newsletters and flyers, organizing and documenting neighborhood and community events, social media and online outreach, and other related administrative tasks. Specific projects will be assigned as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

Education or college courses leading to a Bachelor’s or Graduate Degree. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply, but course work in urban planning, economic or community development, public administration, political science, real estate is preferred. Students in their Junior or Senior years preferred.

Experience and/or ability in undertaking research projects, gathering and analyzing data, writing letters and reports, preparing brochures, organizing activities and events, participating in community organizations is preferred.

Skills and interests may vary. Applicant should possess the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, accomplish a wide variety of assignments on schedule, take initiative on projects and programs, have strong organizational skills, be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships, work in an office environment, and work in cooperation with community representatives. Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, etc.) is required. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is preferred.Additional language skills are a plus. An interest in working in community development is highly recommended.

NOTICE: Interns must possess a valid California driver’s license during period of employment. All applicants must be enrolled in college level courses and actively pursuing a recognized degree.
