Accounting II

Mr. Bartruff

Introduction:

The guidelines established by the National Standards for Business Education will be adhered to in this class. Accounting is the language of business. It is an essential aspect of every business institution and organization. As future workers, small business owners, entrepreneurs, citizens, parents and investors, students will plan, record, analyze, and interpret financial information utilizing basic accounting principles and concepts to be better prepared to make decisions that will affect their own economic futures or those of their employers.

TEXTBOOKS: Textbooks will stay in the classroom. If you need to take a textbook home for any reason it must be signed out. Please take care of the textbooks as if they were your own.

MACBOOKS: We will use your Macs as much as possible. It is your responsibilities to keep them charged and have them with you everyday.

RULES: See the student handbook for a specific overview of school rules.

Classroom rules will be as follows:

Respect your fellow students. I expect your respect at all times. I will you respect you and treat you like an adult as long as you act like one. I will NOT tolerate any rude behavior or bullying directed towards other students. I expect that you treat people how you would want to be treated. I can’t emphasize this rule enough. As long as you act like a civilized human in my class you won’t have any problems.

Be on time! 1st tardy- reminder; 2nd tardy-9th period; 3rd tardy- 9th period. After your 3rd tardy I’ll send you to the office to see Mr. Rose. I have no problem with you socializing in the halls, just make sure you are in the class before the bell rings.

Late work- I don’t like to have to deal with it. If you are absent for some reason beyond your control then you need to make plans to get the work you have missed and turned in, in a timely fashion (9th period) . It is your responsibility to get make-up work. I don’t have time to track down every student who misses class. You should see me before or after class to get the work.

NO FOOD. Water only.

Materials: You will need a 3 ring binder for my class, a calculator if you have one and a pencil.

Retakes: Retakes are conditionally offered. If we have 5 assignments leading up to an assessment and you miss 1, you will be required to make that assignment up before you can retake a test. If you miss homework checks they will not necessarily affect your grade, but will however result in the loss of an opportunity to retake test. In this class trying the problems on your own and getting feedback will be vital.

Grading Scale: See student handbook.

Homework will be used as a means to assess your understanding of the topics discussed, reviewed and read about. Homework WILL NOT be graded, if will however give you the opportunity to retake test. Missed HW assignments will result in the loss of ability to retake test.

Expectations

It is my expectation that you work hard in my class and get the most out of your ability. You must be prepared everyday. Which could include; reading assignments, demonstration problems and all other materials covered in class. Your success in this class will be a direct result of the work you put into it. COME TO CLASS PREPARED TO LEARN AND WITH A GOOD ATTITUDE. I realize that we all have bad days, but keep in mind why you are having a bad day; chances are it has nothing to do with my class. If it does then find the proper time to see me to discuss the matter. I expect you to be in class. This class will demand that you attend and come prepared to keep up with all required materials covered. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to talk to me about them at the appropriate time.

Communication

If you are struggling with concepts in my class please come see me. Don’t wait until we have covered 3 or 4 chapters to tell me that you are lost. It will be much, much easier if we address the problem before we have covered a lot of information. This class will build on previous concepts much like a math class. Make sure that you work hard from the start to get a good foundation for your learning. If ever you need to talk about something pertaining to my class by all means feel free to do so. You can also email me at or call 636.4221. Any problems that may arise throughout the trimester should be handled with respect to other students and the learning environment. We all have bad days; chances are that if you are having a bad day it has nothing to do with my class or me. So choose an appropriate time to discuss any problems or concerns. My door is always open and I will be glad to help with any problem I can. My conference period is 6th and you can also take advantage of office hours M-TH from 2:30- 3:00. Parents can email me at or call the school for available times or voice mail. 636.4221.
