Rules and Guidelines: Solo Song Competition
1. Language. Malayalam is the preferred language. One (1) bonus mark is awarded for clear and proper usage of Malayalam. If the contestant is singing in any other language, he/she will be assessed according to the merits; but will not be granted this bonus mark.
2. Use of Track/Karaoke. Karaoke / accompaniment track is permitted, but the grading will purely on the song/singing. The contestant is responsible to hand over the track in MP3 format by 10:00 AM on August 14, 2010. Tracks received after this time will not be allowed. Tracks can also be e-mailed to . A confirmation email will be sent on proper receipt of the track and then only the submission considered accepted. If confirmation email is not received, the contestant is responsible to submit the track on CD as per the time-frame stated above.
3. Timing. Maximum time is 6 minutes. Contestant’s name will be called out and the Talent Fest theme music played. Then a second call will be made. The contestant is expected to be on stage and start singing at the end of second call. The time starts immediately after the second call. If the contestant doesn’t turn up, a third call will be made. If still not on stage singing within 1 minute, the contestant will be disqualified.
4. Judging Parameters. Each judge will award marks on a 10 point scale. The grading will be based on the following, on the order of priority :-
(a) Posture, style, confidence, body language - 2 marks.
(b) Pitch/key/clarity of words, tone, breath control - 3 marks.
(c) Melody, rhythm and tempo - 3 marks.
(d) Lyrics/song selection - 1 mark.
(e) Adherence to timing - 1 mark.
(f) Bonus Mark for Proper and Clear Malayalam - 1 mark.
5. The decision of the judging panel will be final and binding by all contestants.
