Lesson Plans for theWeek of Nov. 7, 2016

Attention Parents and Students: I try to be on target each day with the lesson plans that I post online; however, sometimes things happen which may throw the plans off a day or so. Please be patient with me since we will eventually cover all the material stated in plan. I appreciate your support 

Monday, Nov. 7

Target Goals: I can cite specific evidence to support why Lyddie should or should not sign the petition. (RL.7.1)

By engaging in a discussion with my partner, I can analyze several excerpts from Lyddie in order to deepen my understanding of Lyddie’s decision. (RL.7.1, RL.7.3)

Procedures: Students will complete the Forming Evidence- Based Claims Sheet. In their groups, students will share and discuss quotes from Lyddie to help them determine which claim they will make.

Homework - 1st Students will finish the “Forming Evidence Based Claims” handout (all parts both front and back.)

Students will write the claim for their argumentative essay and write the reasons based on evidence taken from the book why they decided upon this claim. (3 good reasons and they should not overlap.) Write the page numbers where you are planning to get your quotes and details to write in your supporting paragraphs.)

Tuesday,Nov. 8

Target Goals: I can cite specific evidence to support why Lyddie should or should not sign the petition. (RL.7.1)

Procedures: Students will review a “Sandwich Quote Guide,” and use one of their quotes from a fromLyddie to write a paragraph supporting the claim they made for their argumentative.

Homework- 2nd period -Students should write two paragraphs. The paragraphs must include the three parts listed on the “Sandwich Quote Sheet” (Part 1 - Introduce Quote Part 2- Include Part 3 - Analyze the quote)

3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th periods - Students should write onlyone paragraph. The paragraph will include the three parts of a “Sandwich Quote.” ” (Part 1 - Introduce the Quote Part 2- Include the Quote Part 3 - Analyze the quote)

Wednesday, Nov. 9 (3rd, 5th and 7th periods)

Target Goals: I can cite specific evidence to support why Lyddie should or should not sign the petition. (RL.7.1)

Procedures:Students will review paragraphs written for homework citing quotes from Lyddie to support their claims.

Students will review the parts of an argumentative essay focusing on the opening paragraph

Homework - Write the opening paragraph for their argumentative essay.

Thursday, Nov. 10 (2nd, 6th periods)

Target Goals: I can cite specific evidence to support why Lyddie should or should not sign the petition. (RL.7.1)

Procedures: Students will review paragraphs written for homework citing quotes from Lyddie to support their claims.

Students will review the parts of an argumentative essay focusing on the opening paragraph.

Homework - Students should write the opening paragraph for their argumentative essay.

Friday, Nov. 11

Veteran’s Day - No school.

Monday, Nov. 14

Target Goals: (W.7.1 - A) Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

Procedures:Students will review the information needed in the first paragraph of their argumentative essay. (See outline)

Homework - None
