MY SCHOOL’S COOL!

My School’s Cool (MSC) is a special, community program committed to building relationships with area schools and providing them with cash rewards for receipts from patrons shopping at DeerbrookMall. Participating schools earn points from Deerbrook Mall receipts, which may be turned in to the front office, placed in the Hidden Hollow “locker” located near Barnes & Noble and Sears, or by getting a points pass. Passes are available from Barnes & Noble, Mall Customer Service, or the Hidden Hollow front office. You may present your receipt, have it stamped, and get a points pass to submit so that you can keep your original receipt.

We will receive double points everyday on receipts from these businesses:

Aeropostale, Aldo, AMC Theatre, Barnes & Noble, Buckle, Build a Bear, Chick fil A, Coach, Forever 21, Francesca’s Collection, GameStop, Hollister, Sarku Japan, Select Comfort, Vans, and Visible Changes.

In September, we earn triple points all month from Luby’s and PacSun. Keep all of those Deerbrook Mall receipts and submit them – every one counts!

COUNSELING GROUPS FOR STUDENTS

Humble ISD provides certified, trained counselors for each school to work with students, staff and parents. As part of our school’s guidance program, a variety of groups will be offered for students in grades 1-5 at HHE by the counselor, Lisa Richardson. The groups being offered this school year are:

Changing Families- for students who have had a major change in his/her immediate family. Changes in the family may include divorce, separation, an illness or death of a parent or sibling. This group is offered for grades 1-5.

Friendship Group- for helping students get along with others, learn how to be a friend and make/keep friends. This group is offered for Grades 2 & 3.

Leadership Lunch- This is a new group to teach leadership skills. In this group we will learn how to be a leader and work on communication and decision making skills. This group is offered for Grades 4 & 5.

All of these groups will meet during lunch approximately once a month. Some of the group activities include: reading stories, discussion, art therapy and playing games.

If you would like for your child to participate in one of these groups, please fill out the form below and return it in an envelope to Lisa Richardson, the counselor. You may also send an email to instead of filling out the form. Please include your child’s name, grade, teacher, and the group you are giving permission to participate in. Deadline is September 23, 2011.

Students who are new to the district and are enrolled in grades 1 & 2 will be tested for the Humble ISD SPICE program. SPICE or Special People In a Creative Environment, is a program designed to meet the needs of our creative students. Information will be sent home with your child regarding the testing. If you have any questions regarding SPICE testing, please contact your child’s teacher or the school counselor, Lisa Richardson at 281-641-2407. Current Humble ISD kindergarten students test for SPICE starting in November and ending in February. More information regarding Kindergarten SPICE testing will be sent home with your child in the future.

DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

An organized dismissal is important in maintaining the safety and security of our students.

District buses and day care vans will use the front entrance of the school. With the exception of pre-k and kindergarten students, all car riders should use the cafeteria side for dismissal. Only pre-k car riders and bus/van riders will be dismissed from the front of the school at the end of the day. All others will be dismissed from the cafeteria side.

Bike riders are dismissed at the bike racks on the playground side of the building. Walkers are escorted out the back doors, also on the playground side of the building. Car riders are those students who get in their cars through the car rider line. If you park your car and walk up to get your child, that child is a walker, and will be dismissed out the back doors. Do not park along the street curb and expect your child to walk to your car through the parking lot. Students are not allowed to walk between cars, through the parking lot, or to cross the street without an adult escort.
