GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. This ACN transmits minor changes and policy updates to reference (A). Include a copy of this message with reference (A). These changes will be included in future rewrites.

2. The following corrections and policy changes to reference (A) are in effect upon receipt.

3. In all cases aviation safety surveys are now safety assessments.

4. On page 1-21 paragraph o.(1) the course (PQS) is now NAVEDTRA 43460-4D.

5. On page 2-5 paragraph 205. a. the new policy is as follows:

a. Safety Assessments. Safety assessments shall be conducted periodically to assess the SMS of aviation units and provide a holistic picture for the immediate superior in command (ISIC) of both safety culture and climate across their respective subordinate units. Wherever possible, the squadron safety assessment team shall be combined with the air station safety assessment team to comprehensively assess all aeronautical operations and ancillary support. NAVSAFECEN scheduling shall be prioritized through the ISIC ASO based on geographic region and recommendations from higher headquarters (e.g. controlling custodians; Marine, carrier air or type wings; Marine Aircraft Groups; Commander Naval Installations Command or Marine Corps installation command region commanders), data indications, and a target 3-year periodicity. Fiscal year coordination and scheduling messages will be transmitted by NAVSAFECEN each June. NAVSAFECEN will determine the final assessment schedule. ISICs will receive executive-level in and out-briefs from team leads. Detailed assessment results are provided to subordinate unit commanders. In circumstances where survey results indicate serious safety of flight concerns (e.g., personnel, operations or equipment), the safety assessment team leader shall contact the Director or the Deputy Director, Aviation Safety Programs and COMNAVSAFECEN for further direction.
