Rsh Warden Job Description

Rsh Warden Job Description

RSH WARDEN – JOB DESCRIPTION

St Anne’s College wishes to ensure the safety of its students and staff and as such has paid Wardens who will act as a focal point for dealing with out of hours emergency issues. It would be difficult to define precisely what constitutes an emergency but, in practical terms, a building evacuation due to fire/bomb threat (or similar) a serious medical issue or the main gates not locking are likely to be the primary causes of an emergency. The role of the Warden is limited to providing first response/point of contact to deal with emergencies. The expectation is that Warden will be available at RSH to respond during the period they are on call. If a Warden needs to leave RSH then a stand-in for the period he/she is unavailable must be sourced. The stand-in need not necessarily be a trained warden. The rostered warden should not be more than 10 mins away (and in phone contact) from RSH i.e. a trip to Summertown shops is acceptable; the middle of Oxford is not.

When attending any emergency situation please put your own health and safety and the safety of those around you first.

As Warden, acting as the responsible person attending in an emergency, you may be required to contact the emergency services, the Lodge or the Decanal team. Your role may involve liaising with the Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Police, University Security Services, College Officers, Lodge Porters at the main College site or the College’s maintenance team (who should be contacted via the main College Lodge). It is always a good idea in the event of any emergency to contact the main College Lodge, as they will be able to inform the main Duty Officer, or assist if appropriate.

  • Dealing with a fire alarm – this will include:
  • Responding to the alarm
  • Checking the location of the potential fire
  • Assisting with the building evacuation
  • Acting as the first point of contact for the emergency services
  • Maintaining a log of events (after the incident)
  • Dealing with a first aid issue – this will include:
  • Responding to a call
  • Assessing the injury – if serious call an ambulance: if unsure call Lodge/NHS Direct for advice.
  • Treating the injury – if appropriate
  • Maintaining a log of events and informing accommodation that the first aid kit has been used (after the incident)

Please make sure you complete an incident report for all occasions you are asked to attend RSH Graduate Centre in an emergency. The incident report should record what the emergency was, what action you took and any other important information relating to the emergency. It should also record how the emergency was resolved and the time / date. If there is an accident at RSH when you are on-call you should ensure the accident book is completed. Fire Safety and First Aid training is provided to all Wardens.

Other Duties

Other duties you will carry out as Warden include:-

  • Meeting new RSH graduate students.
  • You will show the new student/s to their accommodation upon their arrival in Michaelmas Term in the absence of an Accommodation Department Staff member i.e., after 4.00pm on weekdays and on the weekends
  • Attend the Domestic Forum once a term

For other minor administrative or maintenance issues, residents at RSH should be asked to contact the appropriate department - accommodation, lodge, maintenance etc.
