Kingston Festival of School Choirs

Thursday 22nd June 2017 6-8pm - Rose Theatre, Kingston

Dear parents/carers,

Our school choir is very fortunate to have been chosen to take part in the 2017 Festival of School Choirs held at the Rose Theatre in Kingston. Both primary and secondary school choirs from the local area will participate in this annual event. This year’s theme will be “Kingston’s Musical Heritage” based on a project being led by Creative Youth and local composer, Pete Churchill, who has written the massed pieces, which will be premiered at the festival.

On the evening, our choir will perform two of our own songs, accompanied by a small band of Kingston Music Service tutors, as well as four massed pieces that all the choirs will sing together at the beginning and end of the concert.

From now until the event, the choir will be practising the repertoire for the festival. It is therefore essential that children attend choir club regularly and that our choir members remain constant throughout the Spring and Summer terms to ensure continuity.

Our school choir will have a cluster rehearsal in school on the morning of Friday 19th May when we will rehearse the massed pieces with other local schools.

Arrangements for Thursday 22nd June

On the day, children will have lunch at school as normal. The choir will then travel by bus to the Rose Theatre for an afternoon rehearsal and will remain there for the evening performance. Please provide your child with a packed tea and bottle of water for the break (no chocolate or fizzy drinks, please). Once we have rehearsed our individual pieces, we will either be able to listen to other schools rehearse their songs or explore Kingston Museum's exhibition, ‘Kingston's Musical Heritage’, in the theatre foyer. Children may also like to bring a book to read at times when they are not rehearsing.

Please make arrangements to collect your child from the Rose Theatre at 8pm after the performance.

Tickets will be available for you to book through the Rose Theatre box office and are sold on a first come first served basis; we advise booking early to secure your seats. Tickets cost £9 for adults and £7 for children (under 5s are free but do require a seat booked).

I would be very grateful if you could sign and return the reply slip below. Thank you for your support with this event and I look forward to seeing you at the festival to support our singers.

Kind regards

Mrs Nassim
