After School Educational Enrichment Program

*Classes will start the week of March 21st*

Meridian Elementary School is offering an addition to its menu of after school activities. Beginning the week of October 26th, the SpringSession of the Round Up Program will begin with classes for all ages. The classes will be open to all Meridian students.

The objective of the Round Up Program is to provide a quality experience to students of all ages in a wide variety of topics after the school day is complete. We invite your child to participate in this opportunity and experience new and different skills!

Registration, Fees and Refund Policy

Please review the attached Course Catalogue and choose one or more of our classes.

  • Return to school on Friday, March 11, 2016,between the hours of 7:00am-8:00am with payment made out to Meridian Elementary School-Round Up.
  • All spaces are first come first serve and will be limited on the number of participants.
  • Any registration forms turned into the office, classroom or BASE prior to registration will not be entered until the end of registration onMarch 11th, and these spots will not be guaranteed.

Instructors WILL NOT STAY with your child(ren). If you are late picking them up after the Round Up classes, the children will be taken to the office to call a parent for pick up. If a child is not picked up after a class for the second time your child will lose their spot in Round Up and will no longer be able to attend. The class fees will be forfeited.

All classes are on a first come, first serve basis, as the registrations are turned in. Please note that we will try to accommodate all requests for classes, but also know that classes may be cancelled due to lack of participation. You will be notified if a class is cancelled.

Refunds are not available if a student leaves after the first class, or does not show up beginning with the first day of classes. If you wish to drop a class prior to the first day, please contact Stephanie Kaiser at 720-972-7923.

Safety and Discipline

Although we do not anticipate any behavior problems, all students are expected to:

Behave in a respectful manner, in accordance with the rules and regulations of behavior that are accepted at Meridian.

All students will be asked to adhere to the “Three Strikes and You’re Out” policy. If your child is given three warnings or strikes by the Round Up Instructor, then he/she will be asked to leave the class permanently. No refunds will be issued if this occurs.

We need to support the instructors, as many of them are teachers and community members. We want our Round Up program to be enjoyable, productive, and safe for all students. We are also asking that all participants treat the class rooms with care and respect.

Student Pick Up

Parents with students participating in the Round Up Program are responsible for picking up their child(ren) after the class and to be on time. As previously stated, instructors WILL NOT STAY with your child if you are late picking them up. Please note on the registration form how your child will get home from Round Up.

Medical Information

Please note any specific medical problems on the registration form at the bottom if necessary, but also know that individual Round Up Instructors will not administer medication. Such medications must be administered through the health clinic prior to the end of the official school day and before the start of the Round Up classes.

Emergency Procedures

If you cannot find your child after a Round Up class due to miscommunication, (for example walking home with a friend). Please contact Stephanie Kaiser in the Meridian Cafeteria. If Stephanie is not available please call the after hours emergency number @ 720-972-4911. They will contact Matt Havilandand he will immediately return to the school. In the case of a cancelled class, as soon as we are notified we will call all students down to the office to call parents, at 2:20 we will again call down those students and assist them in making sure they get home safely.

Abrakadoodle- Super Doodle Art Class!

  • You’re a kid! You’re an Artist! You’re a SuperDoodler! Create supersized drawings and masks! Imagine superheroes and your own superpowers! Make a paint super mess and produce spectacular sculptures and paintings! Blast off with super space art and more! SuperDoodlers create nonstop super FUN in this super–duper class!

Sticky Fingers Cooking-THYME to TURNIP the BEET on what KIDS EAT

  • Let your child release their inner chef! Students will prepare and eat healthy global inspiredrecipesall while learning to cook in a fun, engaging and real world way! Our Chefs will reinforce kitchen skills associated with our weeklyrecipesand each area of cooking terminology, foods and fun nutrition facts (even a few bad jokes!) We will practice measurements, use a wide array of cooking utensils, while always preparing the freshest ingredients while cooking and more! Fullrecipeswill be created each class with our AWESOME master chef Sticky Fingers Cooking instructors
  • Your kids can have a blast every week discovering how easy and fun it is to cook (and gobble-up!) tasty, healthy, American classics and globally-inspired Sticky Fingers Cookingrecipes! Sticky Fingers Cooking offers young chefs the chance to explore exciting tastes (all seasonal and as local as possible!), master culinary skills (that they can put to use in family kitchens!) and nourish their bodies and minds.
  • We provide all of the tools, ingredients and instruction needed to cook up a fun, delicious and healthy after-school snack each week. Our on-linerecipecollection is included as well for each chef for future family cooking fun!

Chess Wizards

  • Let your child be part of an exciting and successful chess academy. Chess Wizards is offering specially designed classes that cater to all levels of chess ability. Each child is challenged by fun games and lessons from real Wizard teachers. It is proven that chess enhances cognitive development in children, improves both verbal and mathematical skills, and increases all levels of academic performances! Playing chess stimulates the mind and help children strengthen skills such as focusing, visualizing skills, abstract thinking, and forming concrete opinions.

HeART and Soul Learning –Fashion Meets Art

  • If your child loves fashion and art, this class is the perfect combination! We will examine how fashion influences art and vice versa> Some of our projects might include: Splatter paint clothing inspired by Jackson Pollock (the famous artist), re-recreating shoes or jewelry with pop art (Lichtenstein), or designing a Kandinsky dress on paper. Be prepared to get messy and have fun!

4-H/STEM

  • This hands-on session will focus on metamorphosis as we watch the transformation of the Painted Lady butterfly from caterpillars into chrysalides, and finally their emergence as butterflies that will be released. We will focus on positive youth development , deepen our understanding of insect life cycles, and make connections between the natural environment and our food supply.

Bricks4Kidz

  • Gadgets and Gizmos: In this session, each week will include a different motorized Lego build using our special project kits. This time, each gadget and gizmo will have a dual purpose. From creating spin art and crinkling paper, to various types of optical illusions-Kids will experience one of THE fan favorites of all our sessions. At the end of the six-week session each child creates a custom Lego mini figure that they then keep.

Little Medical School

  • Little Medical School Brings medicine, science, and the importance of health to children in an entertaining, exciting, and fun way. Children learn and have fun as they dress up like doctors, learn how to use instruments doctors use, and understand how the body works. Each child will get their own medical grade stethoscope to take home! Small class led by a certified Little Medical School teacher ensures individual attention. Each child receives a diploma as a graduate of The Little Medical School at the completion of the course.

Class 1: What’s In The Doctor’s Bag?: Students learn about instruments doctors use and get their own working stethoscope to keep.

Class 2:All About the Heart!: Students learn about how the heart functions and get to listen using their own stethoscope.

Class 3:Digestion Fun!: Through interactive exercise, students learn what happens when their bodies digest food.

Class 4:All About the Lungs: Students get up and moving to learn how air enter and exits the body.

Class 5: Is There a surgeon in the House?: A face mask and gloves will make students feel like real surgeons as they learn to suture and tie knots!

Class 6: Medical Fun and Graduation Celebration!: Students graduate from the Little Medical school and receive a diploma.
