Heather Shonoski, Ambassadorial scholar, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Winnipeg-Charleswood.

She studied at Brunel University in London, UK for a year where she read for a MSc in Medical anthropology. At the end of the scholarship year, her host club helped her coordinate a two volunteer experience at Nyumbani Children’s Home, a Kenyan orphanage that has a lot of Rotary support.

She and her husband are both first year medical students at the University of Manitoba and are both enrolled in the new Manitoba Student/Resident Financial Assistance program, which encourages students to return to practice in rural and underserviced area of Manitoba.

Heather is also a Canadian Forces Reserve officer working with the Royal Air Cadets Program as a gliding (flight) instructor. Jim Forestall had been instrumental in introducing Heather to the Air Cadets. In her high school days, she also participated in MUNA. Once Heather is finished her studies, she plans to have more time and then will be able to join Rotary.

Her power point presentation with lots of pictures gave the members a snap shot of what an ambassadorial scholar’s year looks like.

After several questions,

Kris Wilson thanked her for the presentation
