DSCS Education Committee Meeting Minutes

Members Present: Vicki Malueg, Lynn Sauer, Don Walter, Madonne Rauch, Jen Eischen, Mindy Tesker, Eric Schmitz, Dave Robinson, Theresa Wood and Elene Paulus

Old Business - none
Committee Reports/Address New Business:
Policy – Initial conversation on updating our cell phone policy. Starting some research on what our policy should entail.
Technology – Went through the iPads and deleted off old App’s and then added Moby Math to them. The Moby Math license has increased from $599 to $1295. Vicki called and spoke with our representative from Moby Math and they gave us a discount down to $399.
Building & Grounds – Went through the list of things that need to be done around school to start prioritizing it. Will be hopefully doing a meeting next week with the full committee.
Home & School – Looked over the budget. Next meeting is Monday, January 16, 2017 at 7 pm.
Recruitment & Retention – Hoops Mania is coming up soon – more to be discussed at Home and School Meeting. Welcome bags – got a list of about 80 new homeowners in the area to deliver to. Working on the spaghetti dinner open house, breakfast being served at Holy Cross and donuts at OLL. Wrapping up the State of the School Report that’ll be published during Catholic Schools week.
Staff Appreciation–Don is bringing in Chili to serve staff lunch on Thursday.
New Business:
Initial budget discussion. Terri S. will be present in February to discuss budget in more detail
Principal Report Accreditation Update
- Our leadership team will be meeting with John Soper on January 12th from 8:30-12:30- possibly longer to hear feedback and learn more about our accreditation status. I will provide the committee with a summary of our meeting in February.
Professional Development:
- Work continues on our grade level groups collecting items and planning our approach to teaching the 6-traits of writing using mentor texts. More work will be done at our January 18th staff meeting.
- January 18th our staff will be receiving a short in-service on identifying students with speech concerns.
- Our 1st-6th grade teachers who teach science will be attending science meetings hosted by the Archdioceses to look at the new Next Generation Science Standards. These meeting start in January and are divided into grade levels.
Academics
- Science and Religion Reviews are underway with the staff.
- Writing Assessments are being conducted this month. Reading level testing and Moby Math data will be collected and reviewed at our January 23rd in-service.
Budget
- Terri Schueller and I will begin the budget process this month. Teachers and staff committees will submit their budgets.
- In February we will have a preliminary budget to review and to submit to the Finance Council. Terri will present the budget at our February meeting
Building & Grounds
- If the Subcommittee has recommendations for projects that may need to be a part of our school budget I need to know that as soon as possible.
Personnel: No Changes or Updates
School Safety
- We will be conducting a lockdown drill in January sometime. I will update the committee at our February meeting.
Long Range Plan
- I have not moved forward with the proposed expansion of 7th grade in 2017-18. Looking for committee/parent/Parish Council feedback before we move forward.
Enrollment for 2016-17
- We currently have a count of 90 students enrolled for this school year.
Other:
- Catholic Schools Week January 29th-February 5th - Students will be singing at Masson the 29th at Holy Cross and on Feb 5th at OLL. We are hosting Breakfast with DSCS at Holy Cross on January 29th.
- Open House/ Spaghetti Dinner & Game night will be on Feb. 1st
