Physics is the study of the physical universe. Physicists seek to explain how the universe functions from the subatomic to the astronomic levels. This course is an introduction to the physics of motion, energy, light, sound, electricity, and magnetism.

Students will need a pen/pencil, notepaper, and a calculator (any calculator with scientific functions like sin, cos, tan, ^ , or yx buttons) every day. There will be other items needed on an occasional basis with a prior announcement made for these items by the instructor before they are to be utilized in class.

Students will respect the facilities, materials, equipment, students, and teachers around them. Violations of these standards and policies will not be tolerated. Students must adhere to the standardsand policies of the school. All school policies apply on school grounds and at school activities with violations resulting in disciplinary action in accordance to school procedures; including dress and conduct policies. Students are expected to dress appropriately to help promote the best classroom environment that positively influence learning and provide a safe comfortable, non-distracted, classroom environment. Violators will be asked to change to appropriate clothing that adhere to the school and district dress code. Those who do not have clothing to change or exhibit insubordination regarding the request to change will be referred to the administration to determine consequences for the behavior and access to appropriate clothing.

Personal game playing devices and music systems should not be brought to class. Cell phones and other electronic devices (IPods, IPads, personal game playing devices, laptop computers), when used appropriately, are welcome in class and may be used within many lessons/activities but should only be used upon authorization of the instructor. Those who are unable to properly utilize these devices within the classroom will be asked initially to put them away. Those who continue to abuse the proper classroom use of these devises may have them confiscated for the remainder of the class and returned when class is over. In extreme cases the instructor will take the phone to the office where a parent/guardian will be contacted and invited to pick up the devise at a time determined by the convenience of the administrator returning the devise.Furthermore, insubordinate behaviors regarding device use or confiscation will be referred to the administration to determine the proper consequences and timeline for return to the classroom.

Absent students must discuss missed assignments with the instructor prior to a known absence or upon returning to the classroom in order to discuss proper due dates for missed work or assignments that were due at the time of their absence. When possible, students who know they are going to be absent or who are home and unable to attend class should make contact (email to above address) with the instructor to attain work to stay caught up with class activities.

Assignments will begiven on a daily basis and are expected to be completed by the subsequent class period for grading and discussion in class. Students are responsible for completing activities on time. Completed assignments that are turned in on time will receive full credit. Assignments that are turned in after the due date will receive partial points by discretion of the instructor. Students needing more timeto complete activities beyond allocated time/due datesare responsible for discussingsuch needs with the instructor in order to determine what necessary allowances may be appropriate or fair.

It is the responsibility of all persons in the classroom to insure that the classroom environment is safe, engaging, positive, and enriching. Students who threaten this setting by verbal or physical behavior will be removed to ensure the learning/performing capacity of the rest of the classroom. The instructor will discuss such behaviors with the student to ascertain what will be done to improve the behaviors while contact with parent/guardian will be used to help encourage and follow up on conversations between the instructor and student. If the behaviors persist, a conference with parents/guardians and administration will be used to determine what to do to make the classroom environment positive and safe for all students. Students who work to keep the classroom environment positive and safe for everyone will have freedom to sit where they like during class and experience the fullness of an engaging and enriching education setting that will be both fun and inspiring.
