This is an exciting time for hockey in Bournemouth as the partnership between Bournemouth University (BU) and Bournemouth Hockey Club (BHC) continues to grow. We are now in a position where both organisations are looking to recruit an experienced, qualified and motivated coach to lead their respective senior women’s programmes. With the weekly timetable of both programmes it would allow for an individual to lead both at both BU and BHC however would receive separate coaching contracts.
Bournemouth University
The women’s hockey Performance Sport Programme consists of two performance teams who both compete in the British University & Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues (Tiers 1A and 4A). We are looking for an experience coach to plan and deliver weekly training sessions, provide match day management, liaise with Performance Sport Manager and work with other members of the Sport Development team to ensure the programme is delivered successfully.
This is a paid opportunity with a current scheduled training time of 1.5 hours per week plus attendance at BUCS fixtures. This is expected to be approximately £1,600 for the 22 week season.
Bournemouth Hockey club
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing club which is experiencing increasing success with junior sides. The ladies section has 5 teams playing in West Leagues, the 1st team playing in Premier Division One, 2nds in Premier Division 2, 3rds in East Division, 4s in Channel Division 1 and 5ths in Channel Division 2
Your role as ladies performance coach will be to run Tuesday evening training sessions for the ladies1s squad. You will be responsible for the ladies 1s coaching but will work alongside the ladies 2s coach. Ladies 1s and 2s squads train together on Tuesday evenings for the first 45 minutes and then split into separate sessions for the remaining 1 hour 15 minutes.
Key responsibilities of the Ladies Club Coach are:
• To work with the Ladies 2nd XI captain and coach to ensure smooth transition of players between squads
• To communicate with ladies club captain and help inform selection of players to teams at weekly selection meetings
• Provide feedback to players regarding team selection decisions and performance
• Planning and delivering high quality training sessions
• To attend weekend matches where possible to help inform coaching sessions (this is desirable but not essential)
• Comply with the EH and club code of conduct for coaches
This is a paid opportunity with a current scheduled training time of 1.45 hours per week plus BHC fixtures (dependant on availability). This is expected to be approximately £2,000 for the 22 week season.
The Candidate
• Minimum Level 2 qualification and a passion for improving hockey standards
• Valid DBS certificate, first aid and safeguarding qualifications
• Good leadership and organisational skills
• Ability to give meaningful, effective and constructive player and team feedback
