Classroom Procedures

Cooperate-

Announcements:

1. Listen actively/NO TALKING – not even to teacher

Direct Instruction(Teacher is talking):

  1. Have work materials ready
  2. Active listening (Ask questions appropriately)
  3. Remain seated (no pencil sharpening)

Silent Reading:

  1. Everyone reads during silent reading
  2. No disruption or talking

Interpersonal Work:

  1. Stay with your group
  2. Use quiet 6-inch voice
  3. Actively participate: Everyone does his/her part!
  4. No put-downs
  5. Encourage each other
  6. Listen actively
  7. Work to accomplish group goal
  8. Ask 3 before me

Bathroom:

  1. Fill out agenda an bring to teacher for signature
  2. No restroom privileges during direct instruction (except emergencies)
  3. Abuse of restroom passes will result in the loss of this privilege

Lining Up:

  1. Make sure desks and floor are free from clutter
  2. Walk to the back of the room quietly
  3. Remain quiet and in a straight line while in the hallways

Lunch Time:

  1. Walk quietly to cafeteria. Speak only to cafeteria personnel while in line.
  2. Those students who wish to purchase extra sales must do so while in line.
  3. Students may not return through the line for forgotten items
  4. Talk quietly to those students seated nearby at your table.

Use Your Potential-

When you are Absent:

  1. Bring a note from parent or guardian
  2. Check with classmates for agenda notes
  3. Check with teacher for make-up work (before or after class)
  4. For each day absent, you have a day plus one to get your make-up work in
  5. More than 3 days absent, teacher discretion to complete make-up work
  6. It is your responsibility to turn work in
  7. You may turn in work late, but failure to turn in work will result in a zero

Notebook:

  1. Must be organized so that you can find your work when needed.

Intrapersonal Work:

  1. Work by yourself. Do not communicate with others: no talking, gesturing or passing notes
  2. Keep your eyes on your own work
  3. Keep your hands to yourself
  4. Stay in your seat unless you have permission to get up
  5. If you have a question, raise your hand and wait for the teacher
  6. If you finish early, check over your work then study or read science content silently
  7. Wait for further instruction

Taking Care of Business:

  1. If you need to sharpen your pencil, get some paper, throw away trash, or get Kleenex – please do so at any time without causing a disturbance. (Only one person out of their seat at a time.)
  2. The only time you may not get up so freely is during direct instruction (teacher is talking).

Be Respectful-

Entering the Room:

  1. Enter the room in a quiet, orderly manner
  2. Go quickly to your desk, unpack and get organized
  3. Get at homework out to be checked.
  4. Student may use restroom if homework is complete.

Classroom Visitor:

  1. Follow directions or continue assigned work
  2. Your best behavior is expected

Promethean Board Use:

1. Only write on with promethean board pen.

Serve Others-

Group Work Responsibilities:

Materials Manager

  1. Obtain necessary materials
  2. Distribute to group members
  3. Collect and return materials

Recorder/Reporter

  1. Write down & sharing all brainstorming ideas or group data
  2. Collecting, recording data on team lab
  3. Record assessment for group and give to teacher

Maintenance Director

  1. Evaluating all safety practices
  2. Ensuring clean-up of lab area & proper disposal of all waste materials.

Principal Investigator

  1. Checking everyone in group has information on log-sheets
  2. Communicating directions to group
  3. Presenting questions to teacher
  4. Maintain/monitor “on task” group attitude
  5. Check for understanding of inquiries assignment, procedures, directions, etc.

Technical Advisor

  1. Assist teacher by helping groups who are having difficulty.
  2. Only person that may move around the room from group to group without special permission during the activity.

Fire Drill:

  1. Quietly and immediately line up when bell rings
  2. Close door and turn off lights
  3. Stay with your class
  4. Walk to designated outside area
  5. Immediately and quietly line up
  6. Be ready to count off
  7. Wait for “all clear” signal
  8. Proceed back to class in an orderly manner
  9. If you are, by chance, in the bathroom when a fire drill is sounded, hurry and walk out to your class
  10. ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING!

Tornado Drill:

  1. Report to restroom with a science book
  2. Sit on floor with book protecting your head and neck.

Lab Procedures:

  1. Follow directions.
  2. Safe, appropriate behavior, free of horseplay.
  3. Wear appropriate safety materials e.g.,goggles, gloves, and apron.
