Fundraiser

Location: FoES office in central Edinburgh. You will be expected to undertake some work outside of the FoES office when relevant or required and may be expected to undertake domestic and overseas travel in the course of your work.

Reporting to: the Development Manager

Responsible for: You may be required to manage fundraising volunteers from time to time.

Hours:This is a full time job. Initially fixed term contract for 1 year, starting in May 2016, with a possibility of extension. You will be contracted to work 35 hours a week. The post will require some work out of hours and potentially in unsociable hours, for which time off in lieu will be granted. There will be no payment of overtime.

Salary: £22,500

Other: You will receive 28 days annual leave plus 11 days statutory holidays. Friends of the Earth Scotland operates a Group Personal Pension Plan which employees are invited to join.

Job purpose:

To contribute to and implement plans to raise income and increase membership of FoE Scotland, particularly through online engagement and community and events fundraising.

Online engagement

  • With the membership and office manager and communications officer:
  • plan and implement an improved online engagement offering which encourages online activists to take up our membership offering and donate to FoE Scotland
  • analyse membership data in conjunction with our online activism tools to develop a clearer understanding of the prospects within our online activist community
  • co-ordinate activist relationship management and ensure appropriate events and activities are promoted to our activists
  • Develop offerings to encourage our social media audience to support us financially
  • Continue to monitor online engagement and tailor and improve our online offering as needed

Community and events fundraising

  • Take the lead in delivering existing FoE Scotland fundraising events (such as the annual ceilidh) and ensuring these deliver a quality experience, meet income targets and increase our reach to potential new members
  • Review historical community fundraising activity along with new opportunites and select those with most potential for adoption
  • Design and deliver new community fundraising initiatives and monitor their performance, repeating/scaling up those which achieve good results
  • Identify and support a pool of community fundraisers in order to encourage more people to undertake community fundraising on behalf of FoE Scotland

Other duties:

  • Contribute to other fundraising projects as required
  • Contribute to FoES' campaigns and support activism
  • Contribute to internal reporting, KPIs etc
  • Recruit, manage and support volunteers as appropriate

Skills and experience needed

Essential:

  • Experience of community and events fundraising or online fundraising
  • High level of writing skills and ability to present ideas creatively
  • Experience of recruiting new members and supporters
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to communicate complex subjects in a simple manner
  • Strong administration and IT skills

Desirable:

  • Experience of running online engagement campaigns via social media
  • Experience of community and events fundraising
  • Knowledge of marketing and promotions in a charity context
  • Understanding of campaigning and membership organisations
  • Understanding of environmental and social justice issues
  • Good understanding of the Data Protection Act 1998 in practice.
  • Experience of working with FilemakerPro
  • Experience of using Apple Mac computers
