Site Team
The Site Team is part of the Premises Dept and provides effective organisation of Facilities Management and essential services for College buildings and grounds. Duties include carrying out basic maintenance, minor works, cleaning and caretaking duties.
The Site Team currently consists of 4 members of Staff (Site Manager, Assistant Site Manager and two Site Assistants).
Cleaning Team
The Cleaning team is part of the Premises Dept and is responsible for maintaining a clean and tidy environment for Staff and Students. Cleaning staff work to standards outlined in the College Cleaning Specification and Floor Maintenance Programme.
The Cleaning Team currently consists of 15 members of staff who are supervised by the Site Manager and the Assistant Site Manager.
Purpose of Job:
To provide a cleaning service in specified areas of the College site.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
1.  To clean areas of the College in accordance with the College Cleaning Specification and Floor Maintenance Programme as directed by the Site Manager.
2.  To operate cleaning machinery in accordance with instructions.
3.  To use cleaning materials as instructed.
4.  To collect and remove waste/rubbish from work area to collection point as directed.
5.  To clean and maintain cleaning equipment as instructed.
6.  To observe and comply with the Health and Safety policy.
7.  To comply with instructions relating to security and confidentiality.

Role 1 Cleaner – full year

General Terms and Conditions of Employment –

1.  Contract

The successful candidate will be offered a permanent support staff contract.

2.  Working hours/working weeks

This post is full year. It is part time and the hours of work are 12.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday, 6.15 – 8.45 am during term time and 7.15 – 9.45 am during College holidays.

3.  Salary

This post is paid at spine point 13 currently £14,778. The actual salary is £4,992.57 – (£7.66 ph). Salaries are paid monthly by BACS payment on the last working day of the month.

4.  Annual leave

Members of staff with less than 2 years' service receive 24 days holiday, plus 2 extra statutory days at Christmas and 8 bank holidays (pro rata for part-time staff). After 2 years the holiday allowance increases to 26 days.

5.  Pension Entitlement

All employees automatically become members of the Local Government Pension Scheme unless they decide to opt out. Members of the scheme are required to contribute a percentage of their pensionable pay, according to their salary. Varndean College will make a further contribution of 14.9% of the pensionable pay.

6.  Notice Period

You are entitled to 1 week’s notice for employment under 2 years and thereafter 1 week’s notice for each year of continuous employment up to 12 years. You are required to give 1 month’s notice.

7.  Pre-appointment Checks

This appointment is subject to satisfactory references, health clearance, evidence of right to work in the UK and presentation of original qualification certificates (where required).

8.  Probation

A six-month probationary period will apply to this post.

9.  Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Criminal Records Bureau.

Role 2 Cleaner – term-time

1.  Contract

The successful candidate will be offered a permanent support staff contract.

2.  Working hours/working weeks

This post is during term time (39 weeks), plus one week (usually at the end of the summer term) – 40 weeks per year. It is part time and the hours of work are 12.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday, 6.15 to 8.45am.

3.  Salary

This post is paid at spine point 13, currently £14,778. The actual salary is £4,339.69– (£7.66 ph). Salaries are paid monthly by BACS payment on the last working day of the month.

4.  Annual leave

Term-time members of staff are paid their leave entitlement as salary in addition to their working weeks. Cleaners will work for 40 weeks and will be paid for 45.2 weeks. This is based on an annual leave entitlement of 24 days holiday, plus 2 extra-statutory days and 8 bank holidays (pro rata for part-time staff).
