March 1, 1993 to January 30, 1995 - Director,President and Chief Operating Officer for Goody’s Family Clothing, Inc., Knoxville, Tennessee: A public company with 1995 sales in excess of $600 million, Goody’s is a retailer of moderately-priced fashion apparel for women, men and children. As of January 1995, the Company operated over 170 stores in Alabama, Florida, George, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

December 1991 to March 1993 - Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor ofMarketing, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee. Responsibilities included administering the undergraduate program, the MBA program, and other master’s and doctoral programs. Also responsible for all academic issues associated with degree programs within the College.

Commission of Admission to Graduate Management Education (1987-1990)

The blue-ribbon Commission, composed of twenty-two of the nation’s top business educators and executives, had the following principals and goals:

•To complete a searching review of the current status of graduate management education and of the major trends that will shape its future;

•To examine the foundation and philosophy underlying the Graduate Management Admission Council’s service to graduate management education, including the Graduate Management Admissions Test;

•To explore new and modified services to assure that the resources of the Graduate Management Admission Council are used to respond vigorously and effectively to the needs of graduate management education in the future.

•The Report on the Commission has been instrumental in encouraging innovation and change in graduate management education.

International Management Development Institute, (Fall 1988)

Part of an eleven member United States delegation for the inaugural European Future Leaders Exchange Program sponsored by the International Management Development Institute. The “future leaders” spent an intensive 15-day dialogue with top European business, economic and political leaders in Belgium, France, West Germany, The Netherlands, and Sweden. The Program was a 2-week “total immersion” study tour of Western Europe by future United States leaders and a counterpart 2-week tour of political and corporate America by Western Europe members of the “successor generation.”
