CampbellCollegiate offers a challenging and diverse program. The students will be able to participate extensively outside the constraints of the gymnasium and engage in activities both out of doors and in other facilities. Students are taken to several facilities and locations throughout the city where they will be expected to conduct themselves to the social norms and rules of the venue and the activity.

The program is diverse in that the students will experience a variety of recreational activities, some team sports, individual sports, but the major focus is the development of positive attitudes toward a lifetime commitment to physical activity. Some theory will be presented as well as a leadership component.

GUIDELINES

•Only acceptable running shoes (clean, non-marking, with laces tied) are to be worn on the gym floor at all times. No rubber cleats.

•If you are not in a Physical Education class, stay out of the locker room during classes.

•All personal articles (coats, boots, etc.) must be kept in the hall lockers.

•All activities in the gym must be under the supervision of a staff member.

•Upon entering the gym please leave any equipment that has been accidentally left out or purposefully set up. If you want to use gym equipment, please ask.

•Students must change into appropriate attire before using the gymnasium, weight room, public facilities and out of doors.

•Gum is not allowed during activity classes.

•Jewelry is not to be worn during activity classes. This includes rings, necklaces, and watches and earrings’.

•Each student is to come into class with a clean body and clean gym clothes. After class, proper hygiene procedures should be followed.

•If a student is required to abstain from a regular class for one or two periods, a note or phone call from home directly to the physical education instructor will suffice. If students miss three or moreperiods, a doctor’s note is required.

Long term illness/medical exemption will be dealt with by the instructor on an individual basis.

•Students will remain inside the locker room or gym until the class change bell rings.

•You ARE NOT under any circumstances to leave the gym before the end of class.

•Our interactions during physical education throughout the year need to be grounded in common sense, acceptance and understanding. Respect must be shown at all times for your teacher, classmates, facility and self.

•Lockers can be utilized on a day by day basis. Make sure you lock up your belongings!

ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION=100%

Daily Involvement50%

  • Self-Assessment - attendance, effort, attitude, cooperation, mentorship, leadership, basic skill development, social responsibility, teamwork, communication and commitment to living an active lifestyle.

Personal Fitness 20%

  • Conduct 2 rounds of fitness appraisals (benchmark and final) in order to inform the development and implementation of a 3 week personal fitness plan.

Assignments/Projects/Presentations20%

  • Theory, projects and assignments

Volunteer/ Leadership 10%

  • 10 hours of service learning

Some of the Units of study and activities that are being considered for this semester are:

1)Net/Wall Games – tennis, wally ball, volleyball, racquetball, squash, pickle ball, etc.

2)Territorial/Invasion Games – tag games, capture the flag, soccer, basketball, football, rugby, water polo, etc.

3)Target Games – golf, archery, bocce ball, croquet, 5 pin bowling, lawn bowling, billiards, disc golf, curling, etc.

4)Striking/Fielding Games – baseball, kickball, cricket, etc.

5)Alternative Environment – cross country skiing, snowshoeing, aquatics, yoga, tai chi, martial arts, self-defense, boxing, canoe, kayak, dragon boat, downhill skiing (TBD)*

6)Low Organization Games – create a game project

7)Personal Fitness Unit – settingpersonal fitness goals based on your fitness appraisal results, planning your workout, logging your workouts, self-assessment and reflection.

* Additional fees will be required for this experience.

The goal of the Campbell ColligatesPhysical Education program is to enhance one’s MIND, BODY, & SPIRIT.

This can be accomplished through social responsibility, hard work, respect, and a dedication to improving personal fitness levels.
