NB: A Major Fatal Crash is determined by the RTMC using the following criteria:
  • a crash in which five (5) or more persons are killed;

Failure to observe (driver error) /
  1. Motorists are urged to observe carefully and be aware of the speed and distance of approaching vehicles before making any manouevres.

Excessive speeds /
  1. Keep within the speed limit and reduce speed when passing settlements along major arterial routes. Be aware of potholes, pedestrians and stray animals on rural roads.

Driver losing control of the vehicle /
  1. Drivers should stop at regular intervals when driving long distances as fatigue may lead to lack of concentration resulting in loss of control

  1. General Road Safety Traffic Information

5.1 “Woza Re-Test” IS HERE
The intention of the programme is to suspend the driving license of any driver who has been found guilty by a court of law, of one or more of the following offences, pending the outcome of a re-test, as per Section 25 of the NRTA:
  1. Driving under the influence of alcohol and other substances with narcotic effects. (section 65)
  2. Reckless, negligent and/or inconsiderate driving. (section 63)
  3. Excessive speeding i.e. exceeding the 30km/h threshold in build-up areas and 40km/h on freeways. (section 59)
5.2On-going blitz on Public Passenger transport vehicles to continue. Focus on long distance/ luxury coaches, commuter busses, learner transport, tour shuttles and metered taxis.
Passengers are advised to choose reputable bus companies with a sound safety record. Apologies are extended to them for the inconvenience when busses are inspected, safety is non-negotiable.
