Scholarship Procedures and Criteria

1. Scholarship award is open to graduating seniors of Rocky Mount High with special attention to items 3a through 3j below.

2. Scholarship winners will be selected by the RMHS Awards Committee, subject to the approval of the Principal. The award amount will be determined each year by the Triangle Community Foundation.It is anticipated that twoSeniorsin 2017 from the graduating classwill be selected for the 1st time.The award is likely to be about $4000 for each of the 2 students.

3. Candidates for scholarship awards should meet the following criteria and demonstrate qualities below:

  1. Students of the Senior Class are eligible for this recognition.
  1. Academic Excellence – upper 5% of the class has been used as a benchmark of excellence
  1. Dependability
  1. Service
  1. Leadership
  1. Patriotism
  1. Descendant of the RMHS Class of 1942 receives preferential consideration (when known)
  1. Financial need is not a necessary factor
  1. Past recipients have excelled at RMHS, but often had not received other significant scholarship money.
  1. The Class of 1942 allows us latitude in our selection process, but they want us to keep in mind the ideals of the National Honor Society in making the selection.

4. Application should also include a Personal Statement, perhaps with a focus on the qualities described above.

5. Applicants may attach an explanation of financial need for the committee to review, although financial need is not a necessary factor. Feel free to include any other information that you feel could be relevant to the committee

6. Disbursement of the award shall be made by Triangle Community Foundation to the student’s qualifying college, university or community college.
