Note:

A pre application meeting does not guarantee that a planning permit will be issued and further issues may be raised by the relevant planning officer during assessment process of the planning application.

A fee may be applicable following on from the first meeting, should additional advice be sought for the same address.

Pre-application meeting

Applicants are encouraged to arrange a pre-application meeting with a Council planning officer prior to lodging a formal planning application. A pre-application meeting will help determine what information is needed for an application, identify any design issues and whether the proposal complies with the requirements of the Maribyrnong Planning Scheme.

Generally, a pre-application meeting can provide a number of benefits including:

  • Improvements in the design quality of applications
  • Improvements in the quality of information submitted to Council
  • Increased certainty about the application
  • A reduction in the overall application processing times

Any advice given during a pre-application meeting does not guarantee that a planning permit will be issued and further issues may be raised by the relevant planning officer during the assessment process of the planning application.

Booking a pre-application meeting

You can request a planning pre-applicationmeeting by completing the pre-application meeting request form along with the required information and email us at:

By post or in person

Complete the pre-application meeting request formalong with all relevant information and submit to Maribyrnong City Council for assessment.

  • Visit the Maribyrnong Town Hall, Cnr Hyde and Napier Streets, Footscray or
  • Post the form and plans to Maribyrnong City Council, Urban Planning Department, PO BOX 58, Footscray VIC 3011.

A planning officerwill contact you within 1-3 business days to arrange a suitable pre-application meeting time.

What to bring to the meeting

The following information will be required at a minimum prior to lodging a pre-application meeting request:

  • Preliminary plans or sketches
  • Site context and design response plan
  • Additional documents (e.g photographs of site and surrounds, written statement etc)

This list is a guide only. Additional documents may be required. Council officers will provide further advice once they have met with you.

More than one meeting

A fee may be applicable following on from the first initial meeting should you sought additional advice for the same address.

What to do if you have no plans yet?

If you are unsure how you wish to develop or use your land or have general questions regarding your site, contact the Urban Planning department on 9688 0200 or speak to a duty planner at the Maribyrnong Town Hall. Once you have engaged an architect or draftsperson to prepare preliminary plans, contact Council to arrange a pre-application meeting.
