Riverdale Country School Athletic Training Treatment Policy
Any student injured during regular school hours should report to either the school nurse or certified athletic trainer(s). The certified athletic trainer(s) are required to evaluate and treat all injuries sustained by a student at Riverdale Country School. This includes but is not limited to students who get injured in physical education, after school activities, after school sports, etc. In season athletes will take precedence over out of season or non athletes. Any student who has sustained an injury during a non-school related activity is encouraged to seek outside medical attention (hospital, pediatrician, etc).
During regular school hours, during free periods students are encouraged to seek evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation for injuries. From the last period of the school day to the beginning of practice/contests only taping, bracing, heat, ice and stretching services will be provided. While practices/contests the athletic trainer(s) will be “on call” to all athletic teams. If an injury occurs at a different field or gymnasium the athletic trainer(s) may be required to leave the current venue they are at in order to treat an athlete.
The athletic trainer(s) and school nurse will work together in the treatment of all injured students.
