Route notes:

On emerging from Chesterwood Lane onto the Military road, cross the road, walk down the RH verge until gate with white vertical rails. Go through gate to join Hadrian’s wall Trail.

On emerging from Brunton Lane onto A6079, cross to the west side of the main road just before village green to access the pavement.

For short walk either (a) arrange to be dropped off by long walkers’ cars at lane opposite Planetrees (advise drivers to pull into lane to drop off) & follow route downhill to Wall or (b) as long walk through village & walk up Brunton Lane as far as wished & return.

Possible amendment:

About ½ mile beyond Chesterwood, before reaching the military Road, take the footpath on the left, marked to the Roman Wall. Follow the yellow arrow to the next stile, after which walk along the hedgerow to another stile. From here walk straight across the field towards the Roman wall keeping to the right of the Planetrees Roman site. Do not cross the next stile, instead turn left onto the Hadrian’s Wall trail which leads to Brunton Lane. On emerging from Brunton

Lane..
