Control Measures to be Implemented
q  When used for access, the end of the ladder must project 1 to 1.5m above the platform or walkway to allow for stepping off.
q  Ladders are to be unpainted and checked for safety before use, they should never be used if there is any sign of cracked or split stiles and/or rungs.
q  Ladders are only to be used as a means of access, unless the work is of a short-term nature and does not require stretching or leaning.
q  Users to be trained in 3-point contact when climbing.

Risk assessments and method statements are issued to all workers involved in the activity. This generic assessment must be supplemented by a site specific risk assessment.
