Phoenix Life Group is the UK’s largest ‘closed’ life funds business with 7.6 million policies in force and assets of around £69 billion. The With Profit Management division is accountable for the financial management of the company’s 13 with profit funds. Acquisition and merger activity had delivered inconsistent processes, low morale, unacceptable quality levels leading to a significant risk to the business.

My appointment delivered management initiatives to support sustainable models for increased quality and productivity. Morale levels increased and excessive staff turnover was stopped.

Programme Manager (Interim) West Sussex County Council Apr 2008 - Apr 2009

In 2008 West Sussex County Council embarked on a programme to undertake a review of all services within Council remit. Customer centric and efficient approach taken for the provision of all services resulting in annual expenditure reductions by an incremental £60m. I managed the programme managed the review with a core budget of £21m and inclusive budget circa £50m, project team of 50 and subject matter experts numbering circa 500.

Key Achievements

·  Delivery of £10m annualised revenue savings during 2008/2009, £50m over 2009/2011,

·  Programme delivery under budget by £800k during year 2008/2009; all milestones met according to plan

·  Programme Definition Document defining programme scope, costs, benefits and plans etc. Approved by Chief Executive and Cabinet members

·  Enhancement and realignment of SAP deployments for HR support including revised HR policies and processes

·  Development and implementation of customer support strategy to maximise ‘once and done’ opportunities for customers and ‘single point of entry’ for all queries

·  Review of the provision of 260 individual front and back office service lines across a spectrum of 55 service categories

Programme Manager (Interim) ING Car Lease Feb 2007 – Apr 2008

ING Car Lease purchased Appleyard Contract Vehicles (AVC) in July 2006 as a component of a strategic growth strategy to move ING into the top 10 of car leasing operations in the UK. Delivered the merger and efficiency programme; budget cost circa £8m with >50 project personnel. Implemented a rationalised business resulting in a net increase in customers with revenue increase of 20% in year 1.

Programme Manager Diligenta (Interim) May 2006 – Jan 2007

Diligenta specialises in life and pension BPO. The programme developed a new UK compliant life and pensions administration package and migrated data from the current portfolio of 11 legacy administration platforms. I was deputy Programme Director and programme managed 6 data management work streams including repeatable data migration processes. Programme value £66m over 4 years.

·  Delivery of consultancy in setting up and creating the management and programme structure for the delivery of a £66m programme over 4 years

·  Development of the end to end programme plan, budget and forecast, 18 work streams

·  Recruitment of permanent management team of 6 to support the programme implementation

·  Establishment of a strategy to support the acquisition of additional books of business.

Business Programme/ Clerical Medical International Apr 2004 – May 2006Portfolio Manager

European division of HBOS Financial Services operating in Luxembourg, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain. Creation of programme management and project office functions from a green field environment. Ran a successful portfolio of circa 30 programmes and projects with an annualised budget of €40m.

Key Achievements:

·  Establishment and recruitment of a 30 strong project management team from start up to delivery portfolio requirements

·  Programme Assurance of all development portfolio, circa 30 concurrent programmes.

·  Delivery of end to end projects including technology to take advantage of a unique tax opportunity in Germany at the end of 2004 which saw CMI monthly income rise from €12m per month to €30m per month. Delivery of new tax efficient unit linked life and annuity products into the German, Austrian and Italian markets enabling CMI to continue operating.

·  Customer Service change management programme delivering a productivity increase of 25%.

Programme Manager AXA Life 1979 – Jul 2003

Leading global insurance company AXA with €742 billion assets under management. I managed the delivery of Sales and Marketing aspects of AXA Life business development programmes resulting in 32% increase in business and > £32m annualised profit.
