RE:2013-14Teacher Placements
Caroline Gilbert and I are beginning our tenth year meeting teaching candidates and introducing them to elementary, middle and secondary school work. We are particularly pleased to introduce Brad Hastings, former headmaster of Pomfret School, as a third director of DFES. Brad is first and foremost a schoolmaster who has experienced all facets and dimensions of school life and work. His interests, wishes and goals totally support and complement the history of DFES and its hopes for the future. Brad will focus particular attention on schools, colleges, and individual candidates located in northern New England.
Throughout the past summer we have met with a number of aspiring educators who present the widest range of interests, backgrounds and intentions. We are now scheduling visits to meet and visit with schools and colleges, as well as individual candidates who are choosing education as a career direction. Of particular importance, we want to emphasize the growing emergence of seasoned educators who are seeking our assistance and support. The range and diversity of our candidates is ever-expanding, and we take great pleasure in having successfully placed more than 175 men and women in teaching positions in over 50 schools these past nine years.
We are committed to serving you as both resource and mentor as you move through your job search. After an initial meeting with Caroline, Brad or me and the compilation of your materials (see below), mailings will be sent containing biographies on each of our teaching candidates to over 200 heads of school and deans of faculty. Following the initial mailing, should there be an appropriate opening, schools will contact candidates directly. In turn, we will provide the schools with any and all additional information and supporting material and act as both a conduit and liaison between the candidate and the school. Once a placement has been made we will continue to serve as mentor and resource during the first months of teaching (and further if necessary and desired by the candidate).
There is no financial obligation to DFES on the part of candidates who are seniors in college or who are enrolled in graduate school. The hiring school is assessed a fee due to DFES at the time a candidate is hired.
In order to begin our work together, here is what we ask of you:
- An interview to be conducted in person on your campus or at one of ourConnecticut offices in Canaan or Salisbury
- Candidate’s most up-to-date résumé, including contact information
- College transcript
- A personal statement addressing your career goals and interest in seeking work in education
- Two professional letters of recommendation from professors, coaches, employers
- One peer reference
The sooner you can forward this material to DFES, the sooner we can begin to work on your behalf. Caroline, Brad and I stand ready to help you through this exciting process, but we can be effective only if you are willing to work with us in a timely, efficient, professional and conscientious manner. In turn, we will do all we can to place you in a teaching position which is the best match for you and the school. We look forward to hearing from you and providing our services.
Please see reverse for pertinent DFES information.
