RICHARD CLOUDESLEY’S CHARITY

Recruitment Pack

Administrator - full-time position

April 2015

Introduction from Dorothy Newton, Chair

In his will of 1517 Richard Cloudesley gave his land called Stony Fields to trustees for a variety of church and charitable purposes. There have been many changes over the centuries but that land, of which the Charity retains a part, gives rise to the Charity’s capital.

The Board of Trustees today recognises and takes seriously its responsibility to preserve and enhance that legacy. We use our collective talents, skills and experience, and our freely given time, to make his money (and other money subsequently received) work hard for the people of Islington – now and into the future.

We give grants to individualsinneed, to organisations working with people who are poor and in ill health (including mental ill health and disability), and we make charitable funds available for the benefit of 21 Anglican Churches in Islington.

In recent years, the Charity has undergone a period of significant change. Since Spring 2013, the Charity has – for the first time - employed a small staff team, who work from an office in Resource for London, Holloway Road. The Charity has been revising its grants programmes, set up new management arrangements for its property portfolio and investments, and developed a wide range of new policies and procedures. This is an interesting time to join the Charity as it moves towards the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the writing of Richard Cloudesley’s Will in 2017.

We are now looking for an experienced Administrator who will provide high qualitysupportacross the Charity’s activities. We are keen to employ someone to take up this role as soon as possible.

If you are interested in this opportunity and would like to apply for this post we would very much like to hear from you. Please see the Job Description, Person Specification and information on how to apply in the recruitment pack.

About Us

Richard Cloudesley’s Charity was founded in 1517 under the Will of Richard Cloudesley, an Islington resident, and is now governed by a Charity Commission Scheme of 1980. The Charity operates in an ‘area of benefit’ which is the modern Borough of Islington excluding the areas south and west of Chapel Market and City Road. The Charity assists people who are sick and poor, and supports the 21 Church of England churches in this area.

Richard Cloudesley’s Charity has a sole corporate trustee, Richard Cloudesley Trustee Ltd. Its Board comprises Trustees nominated by the London Borough of Islington and by the Deanery Synod, in addition to those elected via a public appointment process. It has committees to oversee its grant-making and financial and endowment management, and an estate sub committee.

We work closely with Cripplegate Foundation and are one of the founder members of Islington Giving, a campaign for Islington by Islington people, initiated by a coalition of local funders working together to address disadvantage in the borough. The Charity funds its grants and all other costs from income derived from investments that are residential properties in the Cloudesley Road area of Islington and marketable securities.

What We Do

Richard Cloudesley’s Charity is an independent funder which give grants under three programmes:

Health & Welfare Grants to individuals who live in the area of benefit who are poor and in ill-health

Health & Welfare Grants to organisations operating in the area of benefit working with people who are poor and in ill health

Church Grants to 21 Church of England churches in the ancient parish of St Mary, Islington and St Silas, Pentonville

We aim to add value to our funding by using our knowledge, raising awareness, and by working with other organisations to maximise the impact of our grants.
