Meeting Minutes and Action Items

Notes and Action Items: / Responsibility
  1. The WebSite cannot be used for credit card numbers at this time, therefore further development of the database is put on hold. Paula was left with the option of using the database as a single user, if she so chooses at this time.
/ Paula Lusignan
  1. The flyer was sent with the January dinner meeting notices. The Effective Business Writing course will be held at Larson Tool and rescheduled to start on Tuesday 3/20/01.

  1. The ISO 9001:2000 was held January 19th with Jay Patel instructing. Those who attended thought he did a good job but that his accent was a little tough to understand, and his overheads were busy. Jay was a last minute replacement due to an illness of the original instructor. The thought was to try to find a new instructor for the Fall for this seminar, mostly due to the increased cost involved with paying Jay.
  2. We will use Jay to teach on-site courses at NUWC in Newport on Feb 13 and possibly at Clariant. Both companies had been quoted this seminar with the original instructor, so we have re-quoted it to them. Our proceeds will be very minimal on this, as we had to try to keep the price down to the customer’s who were previously quoted the seminar.

  1. The Fundamentals of DOE course in the Spring beginning on 4/4/01. Bob will try CCRI in Warwick as a possible location.
/ Bob Soares
  1. Technical Writing will be rescheduled to start at the end of March (3/20/01). We would like to have a mass e-mail go out to drum up interest, as this did not make it into the February flyer.

  1. Train the Trainer course will be held at Davol. We would like this to be included in a mass e-mail to drum up interest as well.

  1. Rich will bring information regarding course material costs, that he has been compiling, to the March 1 meeting. We will spend a lot of time at the next meeting developing as accurate course costs as possible.
/ Rich Macko
  1. The new ISO 14001 course is scheduled to start 3/6/01. Bob will contact CCRI as a possible location (either Lincoln or Warwick.)
/ Bob Soares
  1. The concept for a Quality Tool Box course was discussed. Bob will contact a couple of potentially new Education Committee members, this may be a good project for someone new to pull together.
/ Bob Soares
  1. Steve has come up with a method of invoicing and is working out the details with Paula and Pat for P.O.’s and credit card payments.

  1. A question came up about why the 1099 forms must go through National. If they must, we would like to work out a system to do this at the conclusion of the course rather than waiting until the beginning of the following year. Instructors have complained that they do not get the 1099’s in a timely manner. Bob will bring this up with the executive committee.

  1. Internal Auditing Seminar – our current instructor is planning on being available by May but we have decided to find a back-up in case he is not. We also discussed whether we should be teaching it to the 1994 or 2000 ISO version. We may want to have an extra day to include the ISO 2000 changes as part of the seminar in May.

Other Issues:

The Spring has started out slower than the Fall 2000. The CQT and CMI courses did not get enough students to run the courses. The CQE will run with a bare minimum number of students.

CQM, Basic Statistics, and Advanced Gaging and Inspection are running well above the break-even point with the Advanced Gaging course being taught on-site at PerkinElmer as well.

The committee felt that some courses might not get enough students because we advertise the course without having a site predetermined. We discussed that we will try NOT to advertise a course in the future until a site has been determined. Bob will try to recruit another committee member to help with this issue as this can be a time consuming chore. Gay mentioned that she could try to help out on this in the interim and RIASQ would reimburse her for long distance calls.
