Installing ICQName ______
ICQ is a instant messaging program which will allow you to contact me during class time, and in theory, I should reply quickly to any questions you have. Start by printing these instructions.
You must first download the ICQ program. Click here to go to the Download site.
You will see this page:
Click on the Download Now link. A new screen will appear, and after a few seconds (be patient) a window will pop up asking you where to save the file (see next page).
Select Desktop to save the file to your desktop, then click Save. Your download should take a few minutes. When it is done, close all your open programs, and click on the ICQ icon to start the setup.
Follow the following screens to install the program:
Click on Next.
Click on Next again.
The program should install, and after a minute or so the next screen will appear.
Type your ICQ number (I have already signed you up. Look at your email for the number and account information.
Next, type your password and check the Remember Password box.
You will then be connected.
Click on I Agree.
This window will pop up. This is the ICQ window. You can position this window anywhere on the screen you want, and you can re-size it as well. I would re-size it to look like this:
A window might pop up with all sorts of stuff on it. Close it. (I’ll show you how to get rid of it permanently later.
In your ICQ window, you should see the words Compapp teacher (that’s me). If I’m there, that means I’m online and ready to help you if you need it. To ask me (or tell me) something, double-click on the words Compapp Teacher.A message window will appear (like the one below).
Type you message in the lower box. You can add little smiley faces or other stuff like I have by clicking on the icons.
When you are done typing your message, click on the Send button.
Hopefully, I will get back to you quickly with the answer.
For this assignment, once you are up and running, just send me a note saying “hi” or something. I’ll get back to you to make sure we are “hooked up”.
Happy IM! (instant messaging). Note: Please do not add any other users to your ICQ. If someone (besides me) requests to talk to you, JUST SAY NO!!! This program should only be used to contact your instructor. Any other use violates the Student Computer Contract you signed at the beginning of the year.
To log off, click on the Main button and and choose Shut Down.
