Reviewing and Updating Space Inventory Information for Lab: Research,Lab:Research Core, Lab: Research Service, Lab Cold Rooms, Lab Warm Rooms, and Photo Labs & Darkrooms

When reviewing the attached list of the above mentioned Lab areas (Room Use Codes 250, 251, 255, 257, 258 and 260) please keep in mind:

  • Room Function should be determined by identifying room occupants and the activities they are performing in a particular room. If occupants are working on more than one type of activity in the room (i.e. Sponsored Research, Non-Sponsored Research, and Other Sponsored Activity), a percentage estimate must be made based on time spent on each activity.
  • Shared Research Rooms such as Research Service Labs (255), Cold Room/Freezer Labs (257), and Warm Room Labs (258) should be assigned the same percentage as the functional classifications for the labs they are supporting. For example, if the labs supported by the shared room are classified as 95% Sponsored Research, 5% Instruction, it would be appropriate to classify the shared room in the same manner.
  • Most Lab areas will be classified in one of these functions (for a complete list of functions see )
  • 1.0 Instruction
  • 2.10 Institute and Research Centers
  • 2.28 Sponsored Research
  • 2.29 Non-Sponsored Research
  • 3.0 Public Service
  • The Occupant information should reflect occupants for the 2013-2014 academic year. If there is a student, grad student, or if the room is currently vacant, please provide that information as well using one of the “dummy” codes below.
