Review Sheet for the SECOND Semester’s Spanish 1 Final Exam

General information:

  • All students are required to take the Spanish 1 Language Acquisition exam for Sra. Moore’s class.
  • If you “exempt” the exam because you want to, and are eligible to, and complete the appropriate paperwork, you will still take all parts of the exam as the “Final Unit 5 Test” and those grades will be added to your 2nd semester coursework.
  • The final exam has multiple parts and each separate score will be entered into Infinite Campus and averaged together to equal 25% of your total semester grade.
  • There are no “retakes” for any portion of the test/exam. Also, all retakes for Unit 5 quizzes that you took before completing the survey project must be done by Thursday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m.

Spanish 1 Final Unit 5 Test/Final Exam Schedule:

A: Listening Test &
C: Speaking Test / D: Writing: Grammar Test & Prompts / B: Reading Test &
End-of-the-Year Survey
A-days / Thu. 5/11 / Mon. 5/15 / Regular Exam Day
B-days / Fri. 5/12 / Tue. 5/16 / Regular Exam Day
  • The oral portion of the exam will be done in pairs. This conversation can be no less than 15 minutes and no more than 20 minutes. Your conversation with a peer will be recorded on a voice recorder like first semester. You are expected to hold as in-depth of a conversation as possible using the vocabulary from second semester.
  • The listening portion of the exam will be done individually. You will listen to several audios of Spanish speakers talking about topics from this semester and need to respond to those questions based on what you’ve heard. You will listen to each audio multiple times.
  • The written grammar portion of the exam will be comprised of multiple parts that require you to demonstrate the successful acquisition of the grammar fundamentals of the Spanish language. You will have 80 minutesto complete the written sections.
  • The reading portion of the exam will be done alone and on the computer during the regular exam day. It will be done on the Google Chromebooks using Socrative, like you’ve done before as the SLO Reading Benchmark Test. The remaining time will be spent taking an ungraded Google survey on your experience this past year in 203
  • You will need to be able to demonstrate a proficient understanding ofthe content on the following pages by using the vocabulary, questions, and responses to create meaningful, clear conversations that make sense. For the reading portion, you’ll also need to show you know what the content means enough to translate it into English and to respond to a series of questions on the passages.
  • You have a wealth of resources to use to help you study, including: our class website, your Realidades textbook, the Quizlet flashcards, all of your worksheets, handouts, returned work, returned evidence, etc.The descriptive feedback and the completed rubrics for old evidence opportunities will be especially helpful to look at and evaluate your strengths and weaknesses (i.e. areas you need to focus your studying).

Study Sessions with Sra. Moore will be held on the following dates/times:

Session #1 / Tue. 5/9 2:45-4:00 / Topic: Listening & Speaking Practice
Open Room 203 / Wed. 5/10 2:45-4:00 / Come w/ partner to practice & snacks

Session #3 / Fri. 5/12 2:45-3:45 / Topic: Grammar – Unit 5
  • The format will be very similar to the written evidence opportunities you’ve had in the past. You’ll need to be able to understand the language so well you can use it without referring to any resources while taking the test.
  • Those who don’t pass Spanish 1 and/or are struggling significantly (low D) might not be passed on to Spanish 2.

Unidad 4
Communication Goals:
This was our unit about our health and our lifestyles. We discussed food, drinks, and our healthy/not-so-healthy habits. We learned how to express our preferences using gustar, encantar, and preferir. We also used additional stem-changers and irregular verbs: jugar, tener, querer, hacer, dormir, poder, and ver. We described foods, drinks, and activities, using a wide variety of adjectives and using the correct “agreement.” We discussed how often we do things or don’t do things using the conjugated forms of all regular verbs. We asked for and gave healthy advice. We shared our beliefs (creer + que), expressed what we have to do (tener + que), what we’d like to do (gustaría), what we want to do (querer), what we can do (poder, and what we should do (deber + infinitive) to make healthy choices and to be the best version of ourselves we can be. We talked about our family, friends, and classmates health habits, in addition to our own.

-Remember that by adding the –ía ending to gustar/encantar, you’re expressing what someone “would” like/love to do.
-Ej. A mí me gustaría ir al parque.
-A Miguel le gustaría correr.
  • El concepto de conjugación:
-Remember, when you are talking about a particular person and a particular tense, you conjugate the infinitive verb.
-When you have two verbs back-to-back, only the first is conjugated. The second verb remains an infinitive.
-Ex. Yo quiero ver una película.
-Tú puedes jugar al tenis.
-Él prefiere beber un agua.
-A mí me gusta ser saludable.

To be considered an ADVANCED Spanish student, you must be able to communicate about other people, too.
That means you’ll need to use other forms of the verbs IN ADDITION to the ‘tú’ forms… here are some examples and can ask some more creative questions, such as:

Study suggestions: Budget your time! Studying and actually using Spanish – even just a little bit - every day will pay off in the long run!

*Use all of the materials on our classroom website ! Go to all pages, especially the Final Exam Review page!

*Use Quizlet and/or make your own flashcards or use the ones from earlier in the year to drill vocabulary. Use pictures on the front and vocab words on the back. For verb forms, write a pronoun, like ‘yo’ and an infinitive, like ‘hablar’ on the front, and the verb form on the back (hablo).

*Create a study group of two or more (especially helpful to practice questions and responses).

*Make use of your ACP time.

*Write all words with accent marks ten times each to get into the rhythm of where to place the accent (and therefore the emphasis when pronouncing the words).

*****GO TO QUIZLET and use your flashcard sets!Use your earbuds, so you can turn the sound on and hear the correct pronunciation of the words. Practice your writing by having paper out, writing the Spanish version of the English flashcard, and then checking your work. Did you use the correct words? The correct structure? The correct accents, spelling, and punctuation? Can you answer the questions? Aloud? In writing? Practice playing the games. Use spell and gravity!!!

*Get out all of your old evidence and evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. What descriptive feedback has been given to you? Use it to help you focus your study.

*Make yourself a studying schedule for all of your classes before exams.

*Make sure to check your backpack for your necessary materials before leaving school for the day, so you have everything you need to study from at home.

*Have conversations in pure Spanish with your friends and classmates OUTSIDE of class – while waiting for the bus, while waiting for sport’s practice or a game/meet/match to start, in ACP, over the phone, texting for writing practice, etc.

*Practice asking people what they’re doing later today/this weekend/this summer. Ask them when, why, with whom-types of questions to get as much information as possible.

*Be organized and plan ahead. Here is a calendar to help you out. Write down when you plan to do retakes, go to practice sessions, study with friends, and take exams.
