SIR Board of Directors Meeting

The scheduled meeting of SIR Branch 160 for February was held at Tep’s Villa Roma restaurant.

The meeting was called to order at 10:05 AM.

Little Sir: Larry Coffman called the meeting to order noting that Van Marshall was snow birding for a couple of months in Palm Springs. Larry noted he would also be travelling during the March meeting and that Mike Davis had agreed to chair that meeting.

Larry noted we had quorum of officer’s present and requested approval of the January minutes, which carried unanimously. Larry handed out copies of Februarys meeting agenda, which after review was approved unanimously. Larry introduced the SIR regional director Jerry Morrow who is joining this meeting and the lunch meeting.

Officer Reports

Treasurer’s Report: John Lilygren reported we have a current balance of $2074.06 in the treasury account. John said this month we made a $300 deposit for the summer picnic ground and he is checking on how much will be refundable. Also noted that luncheon prices had increased to $16 each. The treasury will subsidize each lunch by a dollar until further notice.

Committee Reports:

Activities: There currently is no Activities Chairperson.

Membership: George Ramirez reports that David Knighton had submitted his letter of resignation.

Attendance: Mike Sandifer reported that we currently have 101 members with a total of 96 active members.

Sunshine: Mike Vadnais was not in attendance. There was general discussion and it appears we have five of our members currently under the weather.

Golf: Sig Heidemann, reported that he would fill in for Richard Pike and manage the winter golf outings. Ron Thompson handed out schedules for the summer golf outings starting April 4 going to October 17. A motion was made and carried approving the golf schedule.

Ron said he would email a copy to all the members. Ron announced the Plumas Pines outing was scheduled for June 12, 13 and 14. Ron stated that Genoa Lakes Resort had been selected to host the first Sig Heidemann golf classic championship to be held on July the fifth.

Sig noted that Jim Price was stepping down as the handicap chair, after many years of service, and we are searching for a new chairman. Ed Dworak (eyeing the lucrative side benefits?) stepped up and volunteered to take on the task. Thanks Ed.

Bowling: Tim Hall/Bobby Silvius. Tim stated there was nothing noteworthy to report this month.

Rooster Sales: Dave Tiongco reported that golf shirts would be on display for today’s lunch meeting.

Website: Mike Davis no report this month.

Old Business: None

2.

New Business: Regional Director Jerry Morrow drew our attention to few key points on the SIR organization. First our monthly newsletter is the best of all his branches, kudos to Larry Coffman. We should remind our members not to miss four meetings in a row without notifying the branch. All branch activities/outings should be voted on and approved to ensure that the group insurance applied to the events. Finally, the SIR population was on the decline and we needed to take an active approach to enroll new members further noting that there would be training made available to the branches on this subject.

Adjourn: The meeting adjourned at 10:46AM

How to sponsor a new member. .

He should be retired from full-time work (part time ok) and be able to attend the monthly meetings. Make him aware that there are no initiation fees or dues, but members make voluntary donations to help cover our expenses. Tell Him that dress is casual and to arrive at Tep’s Villa Roma during the social hour - -after 11a.m. but well be for 12 noon –Introduce your guest as a prospective member during the business meeting. He won’t have to make a speech. Pick up an application. Help him fill it out and then return it to the Membership Chairman. His application will be processed and, typically, he can be introduced as a new member at our next regular luncheon meeting!

5.

We are still in need of a recruiter and a person to do publicity for our branch. I know if we have members step up and tackle these positions we can increase our membership. So think about it and step up. If you would like to do this I would be glad to help out as our board of directors would also help.

DOM DELCENIO:

Words alone cannot express our feelings of the sudden loss of our dear friend and golfing buddy, Dom Delcenio.

We remember Dom who always had a smile for everyone and never complained about anything, even when he was not feeling good. He was a great gentleman and always complimented people.

Dom was a SIR member for 25 years. He served as an Honorary Director of our group.

We will miss Dom dearly. Our condolences go out to his wife, Ardy, and his family. May God bless them all?

Sig Heidemann, Assistant golf chairman

MEMO to SIR Bowlers and Friends

The number of participants in the SIR Branch 160 Friday bowling “program” has been declining significantly over the past several months. Even our beloved SIR Bowling Chairman, the Reverend Bobby Silvius, is preparing to turn his chairmanship over to a successor and perhaps even to fade quietly away from SIR. Here is what I have been able to piece together of the circumstances that have befallen our beloved “Leader of the Lanes”.

Born in the mountains of Modesto, California, young Bobby was an accomplished long distance runner and had Olympian aspirations. An unfortunate accident curtailed what might have been a stellar athletic career. Bowling then became his sport of choice, an endeavor that brought with it fame and recognition with other high rollers. He entered the transportation field and soon earned the reputation for being very fast, a reputation he maintains until this day. In South Lake Tahoe he has moved with ease and speed among the rich and famous landed gentry. However, years of diligent prayer have taken their toll on his knees, making it currently very painful for him to continue lengthening his string of 300 games. When replacement surgery was suggested for him, he expressed concern that once he allowed the replacement process to begin, he might not know when or where to stop…

This brings us to the current SIR recreational bowling program. Declining participation is especially apparent for the second Friday of the month at Tahoe Bowl; participation on the fourth Friday at Gold Dust West is better but not stellar. I propose we try the following for the Month of April:

·  Meet on Friday noon April 8 (the second Friday) at Tahoe Bowl with Bobby and let’s see what happens, and then make decisions, if necessary, at that time depending on who shows up to participate.

·  Meet on Friday April 22 (the fourth Friday) at ~ 10:45 at Gold Dust West and participate in their Friday Senior Monte Carlo program. It begins @ 11:00 am and costs $8.00 per person with 3 Strike Pot tickets for $1.00 (limit is $5.00 max). It is a great program. We SIRs could be grouped together and play our card game and other activities as we have been doing within the framework of GDW’s Monte Carlo program.

Let’s give this a try! Please participate and see if we cannot bring new life and spirit into our SIR recreational program. Remember SIRs and our friends can participate! Please recruit new members and friends to join us!

Tim Hall

Branch 160 Bowling Tournament Manager
