Communications with Members
JCRL(mailed to entire membership)
Purpose of JCRL: The Journal of College Reading and Learning (JCRL) is an international forum for the publication of scholarly articles on theory, research, and policy related to reading improvement and learning assistance at the postsecondary level.
Creation of JCRL: This is a double-blind, peer-reviewed journal.
Production of JCRL: JCRL is produced by Taylor & Francis.
Distribution of JCRL: JCRL is distributed to members through Taylor & Francis. The CRLA membership coordinator at TEI provides a list for distribution.
Publication Schedule: 2-times a year— Fall and Spring. In the fall, publication should occur prior to the conference and in the spring, right after spring break.
NewsNotes (posted on website and eblast sent to entire CRLA membership)
Purpose of NewsNotes: 1) Provide information on the organization, its activities and events, and developmental education and learning assistance. 2) Share information from the SIGs and S/R/Cs with the entire membership.
Creation of NewsNotes: Editor gathers articles and photos and creates the issue. Deadlines are December 15, April 15, and August 15. Editors give the final articles and photos to the contracted production person.
Production of NewsNotes: The Editor produces the issue using the agreed-upon CRLA NewsNotes template, with the help of the Editorial Board, and sends the final pdf to the Website Manager for posting.
Distribution of NewsNotes: The Editor sends the eblast out to the membership.
Publication Schedule: 3-times a year— January 15, May 15, and September 15
CRLA eblasts (emailed to entire membership)
Purpose: Provide breaking news and/or reminders about the organization, its activities and events, and developmental education and learning assistance.
Creation of eblasts: A Committee Chair or Board Member needing to send breaking news or reminder information to all CRLA members may work with the Publicity Director to create an eblast.
Distribution of eblasts: CRLA electronically distributes the eblast.
Publication Schedule: As needed.
SIG Newsletters (emailed to SIG members)
Purpose of SIG Newsletters: A service we provide to our members to both improve communication in the community of practice and provide an opportunity for professional development.
Specifically, SIG Newsletters should: 1) start and/or continue a conversation about that special area, 2) inform members about subjects of interest to that particular group, 3) briefly highlight the latest news from the organization, 4) encourage members to present at Conference and highlight members who do present, and 5) encourage and solicit participation in the SIG and the field.
Creation of SIG Newsletters: SIG Leader(s) gather articles and create the issue. An issue might include reviews of relevant articles and books, announcements of projects and research for collaboration, articles to stimulate thinking about conference proposals, listing of
presentations accepted for conference, articles promoting the annual conference, reviews of just-past conference events and sessions, and discussion of critical issues in the area and/or the field.
Production of SIG Newsletters: A CRLA Newsletter template is available to all Leaders. Production advice is available from Board members.
Distribution of SIG Newsletters: When you have your updated email list from the Professional Development Director or the SIG Coordinator you can send it out directly.
SIG Publication Schedule: minimum 2 issues a year— suggest February 15 and November 15
S/R/C Newsletters (emailed to all members in that S/R/C)
Purpose: 1) Inform members about events and activities in that state/region/chapter. 2) Briefly highlight the latest news from the organization. 3) Encourage and solicit participation in the S/R/C organization and activities.
Creation of S/R/C Newsletters: Leader(s) gather articles and create the issue. An issue might include information about S/R/C conferences and activities, updates on what people in the S/R/C are writing/researching/doing, announcements of projects and research for collaboration, articles to stimulate thinking about conference proposals and promoting the annual conference, and discussion of critical issues in the S/R/C and/or the field.
Production of S/R/C Newsletters: A CRLA Newsletter template is available to all S/R/C Leaders. Production advice is available from Board members.
