Motion 1: Youth Contest Awards

The Youth Committee would like to request funds for gift certificates for the Youth photo and coloring contests for our 2009 National Show in May. They have 8 categories all totaled (5 in the photo contest) and (3 in the coloring contest). They are proposing $20.00 gifts certificates from Cafe Press for the 1st place winners, $15.00 gift certificates from Cafe Press for the 2nd Place winners and $10.00 gift certificates from Cafe Press for the 3rd Place winners. That would be $160.00 for the 1st Place Winners, $120.00 for 2nd Place Winners and $80.00 for third Place Winners. For a total of $360.00.

Motion 2: Club Sponsored BOV/BOSV Rosettes for the 2009 National Show

With having 26 COD varieties this year at the National Show, we now have the potential need for 104 BOV/BOSV awards. The club selected awards this year that were significantly less expensive than last year in hopes of being able to fill the awards with donations. We fell short of having them all sponsored. To ensure that all members receive at least a rosette for their BOV/BOSV wins, I would like to recommend that the club sponsor BOV/BOSV Rosettes for the 2009 National Show. I have run this by the Show Committee and they are in agreement with this recommendation. The rosettes would be undated and would not specify Youth or Open, so that unused rosettes could be used for subsequent years if not all varieties had entries. They would be given to ALL BOV/BOSV winners regardless of whether an additional award has also been sponsored. Rosettes would be a 4 1/2" double rosette with 3 18" streamers at a cost of $3.00 each. Cost to cover 104 BOV/BOSV rosettes would be $312 plus shipping.

Motion 3: Appointment of new Merchandising Chair

Our Merchandising Chair, Stacie Jesenovec, has had to step down from the position for personal reasons. I would like to recommend that the Board appoint Jennifer Hack to fill this vacancy for the Merchandise Committee Chair.

Motion 4: Youth Activities at 2010 National Show

A president was set by the past administration for the Youth Showmanship to be under the jurisdiction of the National Show Committee rather than the Youth Committee. I would like to move that all Youth Activities (not including the Youth Show) be put under the jurisdiction of the Youth Committee. With now having 26 COD varieties, the Show Committee really does have it's hands full just trying to plan and run an efficient National Show without the additional responsibilities of youth activities. This would leave the planning, implementation, and manning of any additional Youth Activities at the National Show in the hands of the Youth Committee. Approval of actual activities would still be subject to Board approval.

Motion 5: Guidebook Publishing Expenditure

The Guidebook is ready to send to the printers. The Board had previously approved the selection of Flagstaff Printing in Andover, MA as our printer for this project. We've received a finalized quote of $3,406 the printing of 500 guidebooks. This is will include a color cover (front/back including inside advertising) and 146 pages with 24 pages of color. Shipping costs are estimated at $350.
